OK, not trying to start a battery discussion here. I personally have had good luck with Optima batteries in other vehicles.
Here is my question: I just purchased a Red Top Optima, and after dropping it into place, it is apparently not as tall as the OEM type, so the hold down does not contact the top of the battery. I tried to install the spacer under the battery, but the width of the spacer will not allow the battery to seat properly.
Anyone else have this problem? Recommendations on a fix?

Thanks!

You'll have to fab up some type of spacer for the stock location. Batteries outside of the stock size group never fit very well due to the molded in brackets in the fender liners. I relocated mine to the spare tire well - FWIW

I have the same problem on mine. I just left the hold down off  . Maybe someday i will strap it down.

Put a small piece of 3/8" Fuel line hose under the contact points on the hold down to make it snug. Been like that in my GN for 9 yrs

This may sound silly but pep boys has an ajustable top strap for battery mounting. It's made out of plastic and can be adjusted as if you were using the long bolts with the J-hooks like on many imports. It's a perfect fit under the stock strap. You can adjust it's size and put it between the battery and the strap. Looks stock.

I glued(w/ RTV) a strip of rubber to the top of my battery. It's about 3/8inch thick and 2 inches wide, and goes across the top of the battery. I bought different thickness rubber strips from grainger. I'll have to take a pic.

This is an older photo so you can see how it sits in the car. I just cut a piece of scrap 3/8" plywood to fit in the bottom of the factory tray. Perhaps 1/4" might work slightly better. However, it has never moved around on me.

I RTV'd a piece of aluminum stock under there kinda like the wood is pictured.

Painted it black first.

When the RTV let go a bit, I tapped the block and put a screw through the strap with a lock washer and painted the top of that black to hold the aluminum spacer in there.

Even if installed tight things like to vibrate and work their way out of that spot since it's not perfectly flat there and the edges of the stock plastic strap only hold it on each side of the width of it, kinda hollow in the middle.

Once tapped it didn't move and neither does the battery, passed track inspection as well and that's about the only thing they check for up here. :p
