Anyone have a pic of the decal from an original GN battery? I think they had a white body with a black top and a black decal. I had saved the decal for years, but lost it

I dont have any pics but weren't they blue tops with white bodies? Some time around 85-87 Delco went black and white but I dont recall when. You might try and do some searching on the Corvette boards as I remember reading where some of those crazies were going to the trouble of painting the black battery and somebody was counterfieting labels. Its about time that we start bugging New Castle to make a repro of the this type of side mount battery. I have some old Delco catalogs. If I run across a picture I'll scan it and post it here.

I'm the original owner of my car and it had a black battery with gray sides. Paul

Battery?

I'm sure my 86 had agray top and white sides. Will look for some old pictures.

Hey George. I was looking through Kirbans catalog and there is a picture showing the original battery on page 99 of the spring 06 catalog. Its under the GM battery hold down bracket. It looks like its a black top with white sides. And I think it is an 86 in that picture from the looks of the positive battery cable. It looks like the old style red end on it anyway. Now I wanted to double check this so I went looking through every book I could find and in Stephen Doves "The Super Facts and Figures" book there is a picture of the engine on a GNX and it shows the same black with white battery. Now when I zip over to the "last GN" story it also shows the battery but it appears to be black top with gray sides. And the positive cable is disconnected so I'm thinking that it is also the original battery as I would think the owner would want to preserve the car that way. I didn't think Delco switched to all black until around 89 or 90. I wonder if the late build cars got a gray battery like Paul says? I'm still looking through all the books I have for more pictures. And it looks like all of these pictures show the optional UA1 HD battery option from what I can read on the labels.

I believe it was a Delco Freedom battery which was black on top with a white case.

My 1986 GN Battery.

In 1986 I purchased one new. (Should never have sold it! Regret it to this day!!) If I can find Pictures, I'm sure it was gray top white sides. Will post if I still have them.

cool info everybody. Not sure if anyone makes a white case battery
anymore, a repro decal could be made for the top.

I Have A 86 Gn That I Pick-up About 7 Yrs Ago And I Think That It Had An Original Delco Freedom Battery. It Has A Black Top And White Sides. I Still Have The Battery. I Can Take A Picture Of It If You Want It.

hey, i was wondering about this as well... Though, didnt gn's come with a 'deka' battery? I tried to email kirban, but he never responded back to me. I'd like to run something close to the original battery if i could.

The original battery was a Delco with the green eye. It was a 75 series. The only difference between the standard battery and the optional UA1 HD battery was the cold cranking amps. I dont have the figures handy but it was probally something like 550CCA and 660CCA.

The battery I'm currently running in my GN is a year old Delco 756YR. The old number used to be 75-72.

Maybe we can find an original battery decal and have the decal guy print up a batch and piss off gyrhead. :p

LOL.

But I swore up and down kirbans said it was a deka? hmmm thats odd. Ill see what I can dig up Id like to look as original as possible. Im dam close to doing it too. I got all the tricks

MY 1986 GN that I got new, did not look like that. I think it was gray top and a white base, like someone else posted.
