Overboosting just sometimes??

I just installed a ball spring manual boost controller. I had the turbo set up tuner style before that. I loosened the wastegate up after I put the MBC on.

I get 18psi now, but once in a while the boost will hit 18, then after a second it will jump to 20 and stay there causing KR.

I read on Http://www.hallmanboostcontroller.com in the FAQ section that a MBC can only ADD boost not LOWER boost from the wastegate setting. Is it possible that my wastegate is wanting more than 18psi and it's jumping past the 18? Or is it just the fact my wastegate may be going south? What else could cause this.... it's not really acting like boost creep because it's not instant or slow.... it waits a second or two, then like jumps to 20.....

hmm, mine used to jump to 20 psi between shifts, very briefly. It never stayed there though. Are you using a scantool? Right now my boost is somewhat erratic, it sounds the same as what you're getting. As soon as I hook Direct Scan up I'll try to give you a bit more info. But my first suggestion is if you don't have a scantool, GET ONE
