10 second Turbo T, lots of surface rust. While I'm tearing the interior out, removing all the trim and bumpers etc, what else should I do?

Wishlist:

1. It was originally a chrome car, but I bought W02 trim a few years ago, and I want to go back to chrome. I saw the plastic clips on gbodyparts last night so that's good

2. Seats, the wife says it is uncomfortable, so here I'm thinking a corbeau seat CR1 in black and grey microsuede, $399 each CORBEAU USA LLC - CR1 Seat

3. New carpet, Windshield, Weatherstripping mandatory

4. Body bushings? I have a pack of them from when I rebuilt the front suspension but I never put them in.

5. 6 pt cm roll bar, halo?

6. Upgrade to CSII lower door panels with more speakers ( Have old set of Boston Acoustics 5.25 rally separates in a box somewhere from back in the day). I'll also rewire the stereo since it has lots of noise because I made too many loops in the wire as I forgot all my lessons on induction, electricity and magnetism from my college physics classes when I installed it back in 2000.

7. Baby on the way, so a child seat will be going in the back from time to time, apparently everyone says my Z06 is not suitable for transporting a child:confused: I think its safer than the back seat of a 1987 Buick.

8. Speaking of child transport and safety, I'm thinking c clip eliminators and rear disc brakes to keep any broken axles in place, although I have moser's now. Also, a stronger driveshaft and 1350 ujoints. Jdsgnx (from personal experience) said its possible to rip the lower control arms off a car when launching so those should be upgraded from stock too.

1987 Buick Regal Turbo T

Anything else?

TIA

Who's idea at GM to put black goo on the opera windows...

lol that stuff is nasty. best thing is to pull them when its ice cold out. i did mine in the summer. one side was fine since it was in the shade but the other side that was in the sun, well lets just say i was about to take a hole saw to the car.

As long as the budget allows, dynamat to reduce vibration and noise. Also, if the interior is out it won't hurt to coat with POR, will keep any rust at bay or keep from ever starting. In the trunk there are the drain holes in the wells, plug and coat with some type of rust protection. If replacing body bushings, take the time to coat those hard to reach places with some type of rust protection also. If you really want to be meticulous go through every body and panel seam with the POR filler to keep any rust from ever setting in, don't forget to look under the body where the trunk lid closes.

As I was pulling all that nasty insulation out I was thinking of dynamat. But I don't want to make my drag car heavy. For now I think I'm gonna do dynamat in certain locations, but not everywhere.

Good call on POR, I should pick some up and do the floor pan

I just put these seats in my GN and they are great-- highly comfortable for the highway and supportive for racing. You might check out their Special Edition ones, which are what I used and what match the factory grey/black color scheme.

This is the seat I was looking at. How do you think the grey is gonna match with this versus the special edition. The special edition looks more beige in teh picture, and pictures don't always do justice to seeing it in person.

dynamat is not that heavy. I just added 1-2 layers on the whole interior including roof and trunk and inside the doors. between the sound deadener and putting in aftermarket carpet without the rubber backing...I only added about 50lbs. Its well worth it. The first drive I did after putting it in I was running open downpipe. I could not even hear the exhaust until I opened the window

Check out dyanmat's different products, there are different choices as to thickness and weight. I went with the original dynamat but have not had a chance to test it out........Can't Wait:biggrin:

i always give way2qwk a hard time about all that dynamat. i tell him its like a royals royce 8,000 pounds and 800hp ;) i used the spray in bed liner on mine the whole floor also the truck.

Cool Idea

Very Cool Idea, the bedliner. How does it work for sound deadening? I am sure it reduces vibration well.

Headliner if it is questionable.... kind of hard to get to if you cage the car.

i took all the sound deadening out and just used the spray liner and the car sounds like factory. the only pading i left in is the rear jut padding the goes between the back seat and the truck. i like it and it will prevent rust. i also used the rubber spray under the car as well. its cheap and it works.

headliner isnt bad if you get one of the ones from brian @ gbodyparts. you can really bend it and it wont crease or hurt it.

Any special equipment needed to use the spray in bedliner, or is it pretty user friendly?

stuff i used comes in like a small quart can but there are also spray can types that Duplicolor makes. i just used a brush and brushed it in. i would do this over the spray can stuff but its very user friendly and wont take much time to do at all.
