My daily driver is a 1991 Grand Am. The bottom of the doors on both sides are getting pretty rusty (the drivers side is worse than the pass). I was thinking of sanding it all down and applying POR-15 and then either painting over it myself, or taking it to a body shop and having them paint it.

I know there is some special product you have to use in order to make paint stick to POR-15, but what is it?

Also, I've never worked with POR-15 . . . Will it spread smooth enough to allow a nice finish or is it sandable?

Thanks for any tips/advice you can give me on this!

Por 15 goes on very slick and smooth.
Just sand it like you would any primer, primer over it, then top coat it. GOOOOooooooooood stuff.

don't get it on your hands.

Hello 84TGNTTYPE.

It is recommend you dust the surface with a primer coat once the POR-15 surface is tacky (if you are going to paint later).

Once POR-15 has cured they recommend you sand the surface, then use tie-coat primer.

zam70 is right, good stuff just don't get any on you and let it dry,
you'll be wearing it for a while.
