Part throttle knock, less performance at WOT?

I have a two part problem. First, I get around 4.5 degrees of knock under part throttle and about 5 psi. When I give it more gas and boost the knock goes away. The torque strap is very tight and the engine doesn't rock when I push on it. I've been using 87 octane but rule that out since the knock almost is always 4.5 degrees. I will be switching back to 93 soon. The other thing I've noticed is my car seems more powerful going quickly into throttle rather than stomping it and going WOT instantly. I usually try this halfway through second gear so it won't drop down into first. Going WOT just don't feel as strong as it should. It feels stronger giving it gas quickly. What I mean is going from 1/8 throttle to 3/4 throttle in about 2 seconds. I know I need a new era chip since the old MM chip and K-B race chip are old tech. The car does need to be tuned as well but isn't far off. Any ideas on the part throttle knock or why WOT feels weaker than a quick throttle would be very helpful in seeking out these gremlins. How much timing do those "old style" chips have?
I run 93 octane and use a TT chip..no knock,no problems.
About 17 lbs. of boost too. (not running boost control,only whatever the chip has set)
 
You should start your motor up and let it idle. Blip the throttle by hand at the throttle body, and see if your fuel pressure dips before rising, or immediately rises. It shouldnt drop at all.
 
I’ve got a similar problem, say I am merging onto the highway and step on it a little bit to bring the car to 10-12 lbs of boost about the time the ALKY kicks in, I will get tones of KR enough to peg the knock gauge, while this is going on the turbo will flutter and the car will jerk. If I just step on it to WOT I get very little knock if any at all and the car pulls great. I do have exhaust leaks at both of my headers from cracks but I have not yet pulled them off to weld them again, I'm thinking about getting a set of TA header. I don't know if this is because of the leak or something else or if it is just normal. I have turned off the ALKY and still get the same response from the car. IF anyone has any ideas please let me know.
