Hey computer guys,

My admin at work has set my pc to lock itself in screensaver mode after 15 mins of idle time (meaning mouse movement).

Which means I have to re-login every time.

I have tried to set it locally but can't overide his control on the domain controller.

Is there a FREEBIE program out there that would make my mouse move every 14 mins so it will keep the window in active mode?

Go to your display properties and click on the screensaver tab, there should be a box there that says "on resume, password protect" uncheck that and you should be all set. I have never heard of someone setting this on there domain controller. Hopefully this will help. These settings should be local to the machine and not on the domain you are on

Steve,
If the other suggestion doesn't work, let me know. I found a way around it. It uses another program, I can send you a copy and then tell you how to change it. You don't even have to install it. You just execute from the floppy, change your setting, and then exit. Piece of cake. I changed mine to lock out after 999 minutes. That's over 16 hours. The program that does it is a pretty good note program too. You may want to actually use it.

Well our company deals with secure CC stuff so I understand the 15 mins.. But since I monitor all the systems & am on TB most of the time keeping the window active

I do take breaks sometimes & read magazines which leaves the computer idle.. I just want to make the setting for 30 mins.

Brain I will take you up on that program.

I remember once a program that would make the mouse jump once every so many minutes to keep window alive. I can't remember what it was.

Well, I actually have it set for two minutes now, believe it or not. We have a couple of co-ops that don't have their own computers, so they use other peoples. I didn't mind, until I saw one using mine, and he went to a site that was banned by work. Not too big of a deal, as long as he doesn't do it too often(Where I work they block out sites like the lottery, and other harmless sites like it). BUT, I don't want him to deliberately do it. I told him to get the warning off the screen, and he said, "Yeah, this one's locked out too," and proceeded to do it again. He would hang out in my cubicle, and if I left for a minute, he would be in my seat. Honest to God, one time I moved my chair away from the keyboard to answer someone's question, and when I turned around, he was on Yahoo! trying to check his email. Literally, right behind my back, after he knew I didn't want him touching it. Now, if he is hanging around, I set it to one minute, and wait for it to kick in, then I leave. I went from trying to hack the safegaurds, to making them stricter.

Anyway, Steve, can you run a small CD(3") in your computer? It doesn't have a vertical Cd_rom does it? I'll burn it onto a Cd, so you can have the install version, and the installed version, which is what you need to change the time. Since you probably can't install programs without admin rights. And a 3" is easier to mail.
Drop me a line at brian@turbowagon.com, and I'll try to get to it this weekend. As long as I don't have a tummy ache from all of the Halloween candy.

Brian

Brian,
I can run a normal CD in my pc. You know the music or software kinds.

Yes I can also install programs to my computer..

My admin has been doing weird stuff like a weeky disc of scan for every PC.
Unfortunalty he has it set for everyone in the company to run on 2nd shift.. BOGS my computer down too while I am working.

Anyway I will email you my address. Thanks

I am guessing that it is Win2000? If you go to display properties then screensaver choose power settings. Go to the second tab in power options, should be "advanced settings". Uncheck "prompt for password when computer resumes from standby"

Thanks Guys.. I found a free simple program called Mouse move v1.00 from rjlsoftware.. I just tested it & I foiled the screen from locking up because the mouse moves cursor every second.
:D
