Percentage of 4.1 blocks that are buildable

Of the 4.1 block/ engines that are scored, how many of them are free of the common cyl wall cracks and are good cores to build off of?

Is it true that alot of the 4.1's are proned to these cracks?

Mine came back from the machine shop with a good bill of health. It will require an overbore and probably an align hone once the studs are in but it was free of cracks. check out my post on the 'other' board.

4.1 Blocks

I have built 3 4.1 stock block engines , it took 7 different blocks to find the
3 that were usable. Even though the weren't cracked the cylinders had to go
to 4.000 to clean up .

I think it depends on the casting # 291s fare alot better than the 484s.

my 4291 is free of cracks-going to bore mine out to 4.00" anyway for a stroker.

Thanks for posting what would consider the maximum hp target for a motor based off one of these blocks?
I think a 272 with one of your stroker kits would be sick!!!

Both of mine are cracked from the head bolt hole to the cooling passage. Still in my car and running fine. I know it was there when I built it, no issues here.
