does anyone have a photo of the intercooler that goes on the hotair car's? i took an intercooler in on trade. it is new. never installed. it was to be a kenne bell set up for the 86/87. but now that im lookin at it. it looks to be a hot air set up. it has the adpter's for the intake. do you guys still use these? are they worth anything? thanks. Len

so the pipes are already moified to fit? Is this setup for a 86 intake?... So i guess u are familier with the conversion from hot air to intercooled. If u can give me any ideas it would be apprciated. Let me know what u want for it.

i think this is for a hot air intake

this kit is the spearco kit for the hotair intake.

I installed this kit on my 84 GN about 2 years ago. I didnt personally by the kit but it came with the car. I think the guy I bough tthe car from said it was around 950 for the kit then. I think the kit is around 1100-1200 now. What I would do is get an IC cheap, and fab the intake elbow and throttle body adapter plate to twist the throttle body back straight. Mandrel bent pipes are cheap from jegs. Since then I have turned that spearco kit into a 86-87 style stock location kit for the 84-85 cars. It is in my webshots album in my sig. if anyone is interested.

Just my .02

That is for sure the hotair kit. Spearco sold it obviously, and I've seen Kenne-Bell sell it also. I bought it new in '95 for ~$840 and sold it in the first hour for $300 in '01. That probably doesn't help your question of how much it's worth.

You're probably not interested in using it on an hotair but fwiw, my car stock with just the IC and filter on the stock fuel pump went 13.9@ 101mph with 14psi. It made a nice difference.

it seems im missing the mounting brackets for the cooler its self and a throttlebody adapter. so its not complete. i still would like to sell it so please make an offer. thanks. Len

i'm sure i can fabricate the brackets. to my understanding this IC setup is to be used with the stock 84 intake. Are there any other modifactions needed to ad this IC setup. Does everything else stay the same... throttlebody and turb, etc....I dont know what to offer u, u tell me. thank u

i really dont know anymore about it. only whats on this thread and the one i have on t6p.com. my cars are 86/87. i will pm you. thanks.

The TB adaptor isn't needed. I used it without and the TB was tilted a couple degrees but it worked fine. If you're using the 87 compressor housing, it works perfect without the adaptor.

Its a hot air setup, they are rare to find. Not as good as the TM v2 setup, the v2 has shorter tubing and uses the modded hotair intake to flow twice the cfm as the stock one. Tm v2 kits have sold on here lately minus small parts you can buy or fab for 400-500. HTH

The V2 uses a stock 87 IC vs a much niceer Spearco IC. The length of tubing has never made a difference in spool going from hotair to Spearco to Ford PS.

You are right, spearco is a better ic. As far as tubing length TM instructions even say to expect some turbo lag from the additional tubing and intercooler with a i/c setup. Plus every intercooler theory site i have read stated to keep tubing length to a minimum. Spearco setup is still pretty good just needs a better intake manifold.

just wondering can this spearco intercooler still be bought brand new? ive heard that they have been discontinued but say if thats the case how does any one of us hotairss go about going wit the i/c setup ? would it just have to a custom setup or? thanx

I'm sure there is a difference in lag, there has to be. My point was that it's so little, it's not noticable. I went from no intercooler to the Spearco kit and had absolutely no noticable difference in lag. I now run a bigger intercooler and much bigger 3" plumbing and still, no difference. In theory it causes more lag due to more volume to fill up but in reality, there's no difference.

I've also said in the past, a ported stock intake will take you where you want to go. I see no need to fab up a whole new intake manifold. My car as it sits has taken a new Viper among other fairly fast cars at only 16psi with the stock ported manifold. It flows plenty air as is.

COOL 84... How did you like the spearco setup, did it perform well? Did you notice a big difference in performance? how much more boost. Did your car idle ok? Sorry for all the questions. just trying to determine if i want to ad this kit or not. i'm trying to get more performance with as little work as possible and i heard that this is very easy to ad. thanks, let me know...
