I have these plastic gears which are stripped out. The drive gear is a worm which is metal. The driven gears are plastic in the image. Sad but the whole assembly is almost $1000. Which I am not about to purchase. If I can find a way to replace or repair these gears everything will work perfect. Does anyone know of a way or place to help me out.

might help if ya say what they are from.. Not many mindreaders in here.:p

It seems to be a problem with the design. Metal drive gear and plastic driven don't last too long. I was hoping to find a company which makes gears in a better material. Or at the very least put a new plastic one in.

call up some Chinese manufacturer and tell them you might want 1 million of those. Let them make and send you the protos and then tell them no thanks.

Just a thought. :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

There used to be a company called Boston Gear and another called Stock Drive Products that sold any kind of gear you can think of.

Can they be removed from the shaft?

If you have the skills, you can measure them up, make a drawing and have a local shop make you new ones in whatever material you want. Not sure of the whole system design and what happens if these gears fail or if they're plastic (nylon???) because of noise reduction or shock or self lubrication or something, but you just may want to keep these gears a softer material than the steel worm. Maybe cut them from a low grade aluminum. I would think that making two at a local shop would be a bunch less than $1000. Maybe make a bunch and give them to your Jeep buddies as a Christmas stocking stuffer.:D

How are they held on?

Knurls?

CNC aluminum would be the way to go then sell them on Ebay to get the original startup costs back. :cool:

You too could become an internet millionaire. :biggrin:
