Hello turbo buick owners! I thought I would chime in and thank everyone for all the great info here. I am almost done in my 1984 3.8 powered Jeep Cherokee. Forced Inductions is doing a rebuild on my turbo, and I should have it back shortly. It hit 432 HP on the dyno. I was getting some oil in my up pipe, so that is why it is being rebuilt.

It is basically a sleeper, and looks like a stock jeep, and even has the idle sound of the stock 4.0 Straight Six that came in the jeep. Nothing is better then having 4 wheel drive to lock in all those horses, and the best thing is pulling up next to a ricer or mustang cobra, and making them think twice about a "stock" jeep. :D

The only extra things I have to do is put in an electronic exaust dump, and install the monitoring computer..

I will have some 1/4 mile times shortly!

I run http://greatlakes4x4.com and I hope if you guys ever need any 4x4 help, you will swing on by! Thanks again for the great site.

More pics!

I have been thinking about doing this with the engine that is my car now. I gotta wait till the new engine gets done first.

What is sad is it probably weaighs 200-400lbs LESS than a TR.

I had a '91 4.0L that weighed right at 3000 lbs.

good luck! :D

Had to extend the nose 5" to fit the intercooler, which was a bigger job then putting the engine in! (motor is from an 87') The fenders are extended, As well as the piece you can see between the hood and the grill in the picture above. And you can't really tell unless you know what you are looking for..

I am having issues with the turbo being to close to the hood, and leaving some burn marks in the hood.. Another "issue" is the airbox is not in a very good place. It is behind the driver side headlight. My plans is to do a side fender scoop that utilizes part of the gril, so it cannot be seen.. I need to do some research, and find out if a scoop is even necessary with the turbo/intercooler setup...

The only way you can tell the jeep has some work done to it from the outside is the intercooler scoop that is molded under the bumper, and the 3" stainless borla exaust...

I'll post some more pictures tomorrow.

The weight on the cherokee is 2897 lbs with the current setup.. no back seats, and the gas tank was almost empty at the cat scale.

Not sure how much a TR weighs.

I thought about putting that in my YJ instead of my worked over TPI out of a vette.

Turbos aren't the best for offroading, and that is definitly what my YJ does ;)

If you were just building a DD out of it, it would be a blast!

Thanks for the input. I might try a N/A 3.8. A friend of has a 3.8 that runs on propane. It's works nicely :)
