THE TE SERIES ONE IS A 62

WTF IS THE TA ONE. that is the first time i have seen a 4 bolt housing with the internal wastegate side.

surej

not shure but it looks bigger than a 62 too me. The turbine side is a clipped p trim the compressor side looks like a 63 or a 66. Take the housing off and meassure the wheel.

Scotty,

I think it's a 45, though I can't really tell the shaft size from the pic. It has a 6 blade compressor wheel unlike the 61 and 62, which look like 7 blades. The 61 has a slightly smaller trim TO4B turbine wheel and the 62 and 45 have a P trim. There's a little more meat left on the turbine downpipe flange on the 61s as compared to the 62s, 45s, etc. that use the P-trim. Take a look at some pics here:

Oh..I looked at your old 51 tonight..it still feels as tight as new. 129 MPH and no melting... :D

Thanks folks.

I think we can definitely conclude it has a P trim turbine which the 62, 63 & 45 uses. Like Kendall pointed out, the compressor side is using the 6-blade wheel, unlike the 61 & 62 but it does not have a 4" inlet like the 45. My guess is, like malibuick231's, a 63. I do not have the turbo but have an opportunity to buy it at a reasonable price. I am getting shivers thinking about slapping this puppy on

Kendall, thanks for checking out my 51. With the rep of this turbo has gotten, I can certainly understand the doubts when a seller says theirs is in excellent condition.

Scotty ,
You cant make a decision based on that. The TE 45 is normally sold with the regular TE housing , same as a TE 61, TE 44 ect....The cool housing Kendall has on his is the st time ive ever seen them with it.

Compare your unit to my TE 45 with the regular compressor housing

Good Luck

Damn, thanks Louie.

If the 62 & 45 both have the same turbine side, is there any difference in how they spool up? Will this be too much for my setup? +.020 3.8L, Champion Irons and matching intake, stock cam, FMIC, AC 9.5 32-3500 LU. I am not looking to push this setup to the max as I want to the stock bottom-end (ARP rod bolts & head studs) to live but I also do not want it to be a dog spooling up. Just looking for another 35-40hp over the 51.

The 4-bolt is a T-3 from a turbo ford.

Really? I thought it looked more like the turbo off of a 79 Turbo Coupe, but I really don't remember what kind of turbine housing they had. I know the compressor bolted to the intake and the compressor inlet sucked through the carburator.

I had a T63E and it looked like the one in the picture. I have a 61 now and it isn't that. I have pics of the 61.

I dont know if they both do have the same. Either way i dont think you will have a spooling problem with that converter. Although ive seen your car run and you might want some lag on the street.....lol:eek:

If you need a specific pic of the TE 45 let me know and i can work on that as my car is down right now.

Yeah - look at the center section, it is water cooled. Carbed Hot-airs have 3-bolt turbine housings.

I now have this turbo in my hand and maybe the following will help pin down what it is:

- It has a .82 turbine housing
- It has "3705-1" scribed on the bottom of the compressor housing.

TIA
