My dad left me a 1987 Buick gn I am trying to build it up it I completely stock I want to maximize the hp
I'm on a budget please no haters thanks!!!!

If you're on a limited budget leave it stock. Do maintance and enjoy it. A good start is to completely read this site so you get a better understanding of what a Turbo Buick is. http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/ If it's been modified you will need to understand what was done. TB are fun but you can easily destroy the engine in seconds if you don't understand it. This includes experienced mechanics that don't know the TB.

Understood I have worked on this car for years I was just wonder what bolt ons I can instal or where to start off

How much money do you have to spend? And I mean spend at once. A free car is great and congratulations but parts aren't free. Are you a car guy? You need to be mechanically inclined because labor is even more expensive. You're going to need to have at least $1,000 ready to spend. Anyone who tells you much less is not being truthful.

I am just being truthful with you. Better to go in knowing what to expect than be disappointed and give up or hack something and waste money and time.

And where do you live? Do you have E85 in your area? Race gas? There are several combos you can copy and be successful. And that is the best way to do it: copy a combo that gets you where you want to be.

I live in Santa Barbra county California, and yes I work on.cars all the time but mostly imports yes I know its not the same I have 5 gs ready to put into the black beauty

then the next question is, what are your plans for the GN? then we can give you a better direction in which to go in.

I want to be able to drive it on the street but I want to eventually get it hitting 12s on the qt

Kinda early there huh? Looks like an E85 combo is not for you. California has some special smog rules you have to follow. I am not an expert on those but they can be pretty strict I hear like no open breathers, catalytic converter checks, no obvious modifications from stock appearance on the engine. I will leave this to the natives. Good luck.

First and foremost you need a scanmaster and a spring cleaning - http://www.gnttype.org/maint/basics.html. This is to make sure the car is in proper running condition. I would then start looking for a trans since the original is weak out of the factory. I've seen people practically give them away here. Preferably a package deal with a better torque converter. Next I would figure out what turbo i would want to end up with. People also practically give those away on here. Then in one shot I would get a better flowing intercooler, injectors, chip, turbo, fuel pump with hot wire, and alky. This should put you in 12's pretty easy with some sticky tires. If you buy most the parts used you should have no problem staying in budget.

Scanmaster, chip, K&N air filter, hot wired fuel pump and regulator and take it from there... people have gone 12s and faster with mostly stock items. No need to throw everything but the kitchen sink at it. You're going to have to get an alky system since the 91 octane won't handle the boost, unless you plan on running race ga$ all the time. Keep an eye on the South Western section of this board. We have get togethers frequently - usually in the southern L.A. / Orange county areas.

Where is a good place to get quality parts?

There are also plenty of good part in the for sale section here. People are constantly upgrading and dumping perfectly good parts for great prices.

My car was stock when I got it in december 2011, just over a year ago. Boy did I learn quick that these cars will nickle and dime you to death once you start modifying in order to do things right. It was months before I was ready to even think about turning up the boost. I had to also do a lot of repairs along the way... still am. Definitely get a scanmaster and upgrade the fuel system first imo.

Fuel pumps tend to die fairly quickly on these cars. Before stomping on it, get a FP gauge that you can see while driving to make sure FP increases 1 psi per pound of boost. I installed an electric FP gauge on my A pillar so I always know what the pressure is. A bad pump will lead to a blown head gasket.
