At least I have a degree, why don't both of you go back to work writing parking tickets. By the way since you both say you are in law enforcement what agencies do you guys work for ? I know you can't say because some BS you will make up. Are you guys just private security guards? If you know anything about your professional you won't get very far with out a degree these days.

I used to be when I was younger, but got out of it, as other hobbies nudged it over. Was into CB's as well. I was indeed very exciting. Though it's also an insight, to how stupid people are, in your hometown. I got discouraged as to the level of stupidity in my city lol.

I am all for, the people that pay your salaries, being able to have access, to the freqs they paid for.... I think the people should be able to monitor the police... why not? You work for us, not the other way around.

And you're not HONESTLY going to try and make us think, that if you knew that a specific residence has a police scanner, that you're going to actually do something different, than you normally do, do you? You mean to tell me, that you utilize less situational awareness, and less tactics and strategy, if you are not sure the residence has a scanner? How do you know they DON'T have one? Do you actually drop the defensive mindset, and get lax as often as possible, when you think you can get away with it? Sounds dangerous to me.
There's no way, you can actually know, if one has a scanner. So therefore, you should always assume they do, and adjust the tactics accordingly. Do you not do this, when performing a roadside stop? Oh, ok then. So you only assume they're dangerous, only on half your operations, and not the other? I'm confused.
Police should aways assume the worst, when entering into any potentially tactical situation. I constantly see that they don't, every single night, on 'Cops', or 'The craziest police chases' or whatnot. And everytime, it's the cop getting messed up. (unfortuately)
I am in no way anti cop, or anti law. I am in fact VERY pro cop, and support them whenever, and however I can. I love cops in fact. They willingly put their lives on the line for us, each and every day. I just don't agree with some of their outlooks, every once and a while. I just wish they could get more funding, and more training. That would benefit them, and the citizens as well.
Scanners, in no way, make the bad guys more apt to wanna bring harm on police officers. If they want to ambush you, they're going to do it, scanner or not. Period. It's been happening wayyyyy before scanners were out, and it will continue to happen, after your freqs go totally secure too.
What's a scanner going to do, let the bad guys know the cops knocking on the door? Too late, the "Police, open up!!!!!" already did. All a bad guy has to do, to hurt a cop, is wait for the knock, then shoot thru the door with a shotgun slug. Or, just sit on an FN 5.7, wait for them to come in, and shoot. No scanner need.

Scanners are our right, and banning them is a huge rights violation. Now, going to your own secure freqs, is another story. Wanting to keep your business private, is also your right. (and not completely a bad idea) But until you go to a secure freq, people should have scanners. There's nothing wrong with wanting to know what your PUBLIC SERVANTS are doing. :)

(and before you get all crazy on my ass, talkin' about "you don't know what it's like!" let me tell you, that I patrolled baghdad for a year, responding to a lot of 'calls', doing bolo's and the whole deal. I know what it's like, coming up to a situation, where you don't know if they're armed or not. Or if this nice and calm situation, can potentially get out hand very quickly. In no way, did we ever drop our guard, just because we thought it may be a 'lesser' type of call. It was a hundred percent, or none at all. We maintained the tactical fundamentals each and every time. scanner or no scanner."
I agree 100% ....

What I meant by: "Though it's also an insight, to how stupid people are, in your hometown. I got discouraged as to the level of stupidity in my city lol."
was that I didn't know that soo many people got arrested for doing soo many stupid things. Like, spray painting things, or assaulting people for no reason, etc etc.
It makes me lose faith in my population. I hate being reminded how utterly stupid Detroiters are. I feel that if the cops just beat the living jesus out of people more often, maybe they'd think more, before doing stupid ****.
And this is one of the reasons I quit listening lol.

Sorry, had to explain.

I read in a magizine there is an Ipod app so you can listen to Chicago Police:frown::frown:

I push the button and talk. That's all I need to know. That's what they pay you the big bucks for, chief! :)

This is true lol. If it quits workin', take 'er back, and get a new one for the shift. I suppose that's all that's necessary.

Interesting...I was actually wanting to purchase a scanner, so I could monitor the police bands, fire, ambulance, ham radio, cb radio, weather channel...

I used to listen to the local police and trains back in the early 90s. My scanner also picked up baby monitors and cordless phones. I heard some guy crying because he girlfriend was breaking up with him. He kept begging for her to take him back. I was yelling at the scanner for him to forget her.:D I slowly got board with the scanner and stopped listening.

What I find really ironicly funny is how Sean and Brett both dont realize how the digitial radios work :D
There are only two things that concern me about switching over to Digital.

One, that the dispatcher will actually hear me when im in a 10 story housing project while in the basement. Analog signals are not strong enough and therefore I cannot be heard at times.

Two, that every yahoo in the city will have to spend extra money and wait on their scanner if they want to be in the Police department/Fire departments business.

Other then I could give a chit about how or why it works better then the analog system does. I'll worry about real police work and the nerds in the dept. who are too scard to actually work the streets:rolleyes: can worry about how the CAD system functions and what to do when it fails.

Haha not all of us are "nerd's" trust me... But I do not officially work for a government organization anyway.... And dont count on the digital radios always working in basements lol... Take a look at nypd and philly's police new great "digital" radios  they have only gone down how many times now? I would rather have a radio that atleast works 99% of my shift compared to not at all

Also why cant the fire guys have digital radios you always focus on the police ;)

Back in the early 90's my old neighborhood was filled with young couples & divorcees. I had a desktop scanner that picked up cordless phones... OMG my wife & self would sit at night listening to the stuff they talked about. It was better that TV.

We heard about the love triangles, medication. One Lady compared feet to the size of a guy's PEKER, We heard about rendevous how one lady went to meet up with a guy in maryland.. on & on it was great.

Heard one guy call a limo company, heard his cc number, address, dates he was out of town & back..

Good point. We have not officially switched over to Digital as of yet. We have the radios that are capable but are still runnen off analog and they suk even worse then they did before because they are not being used as they were designed:rolleyes:. Atleast that's what they keep telling me. They keep telling us that when we go digital the signal will be much better.

Basically I have never had an issue with analog except in the housing project buildings. Of course that's where your gonna need it most cause that's where most of the shootings and drug sales occur:mad:.

We have a brand new CAD system that is already functional but not functioning:rolleyes:.

Our Police, Fire and EMS use to be run out of seperate facilities. Now they will all be housed in the new facility which looks like the command center on the Enterprise:). Very impressive actually. The new system is light years ahead of the old one and maybe we will actually beable to locate an officer now when his emergency signal goes off:rolleyes:.

Police and fire will have the same radios now. In fact, the ones that we have are too dam heavy. Apparently, the radios we all ordered at the same time and the Fire Dept. needed a radio battery that was fire proof/resistant and therefore they ordered ALL radios with this fire proof battery. It literally weighs 4 times the weight of the radio itself and of course we now have that battery on our hand sets. Is there a lighter battery I can buy or will that effect how it transmits?

I'm still running an old Bendix King portable radio. I consider it my fourth weapon of choice, it's so damned heavy! :)

I know. I think mines a couple decades old. I swear I'm going to end up with some back or hip disorder just from luggin that friggin boat anchor around for upteen friggin years.

I ended up buying my own. It's a tool on ur belt that is used more often then any other. Just like ur flashlight and when better ones come available I buy the better one. It's my ass not my PD's.

Almost impossible to jump over a fence with one of those Vietnam era radios:D. Ask ur PD if you can purchase ur own? If you ask the right person it might be possible.

Brett what duty belt do you use? Also I assume you are using a external mic what model? What model radio APX-7000 maybe since its backwards compatible? On the APX-7000 with a standard battery they weigh around 18 ounce's.... I just got 350 of them for work the other day but I have not even really looked at them yet. I think there going to baltimore police but I am not sure yet. Even with the regular battery they seem to be heavy though...

Duty belt is Safariland. The external mic is a Motorola and it's cordless. It has a transmitter attached to the radio and I hear it thru my mic attached to my uniform shirt. No cords, no BS to get tangled up in.

My buddy retired from Baltimore City. Got shot up a couple times serving a narcotics warrant. He lived.:) He is number such and such.... on Point Blanks Balistic vest page that honors officers shot in the line of duty.

Thanks for the comments, I just wanted to see if you 2 like it when somebody acts like an a**hole towards you, like both you did to Buddy. Both of you could care less about others and you showed it. Hopefully he will still attend the Turbobuick nationals so some of us who respect him can show it.

Have a nice day

X2...WTF...Yeah he may put his pants one leg at a time like everyone else, but he is an elder and a legion, and deserves some respect, not some BS smart ass comments. BTW he is leaving this website...Thanks much you fuken azzholes
