Took my little turbo truck out today to get it inspected, it drove OK over there, but the tech came and told me it wouldn't start. Smelled really gassy so I floored it for a "clear flood" start and it started right up. Stalled 3x's on the way home and by the time I got there it wouldn't restart. Ended up pushing it in the garage. It has a CEL displayed but not sure this Win7 laptop will even run my old Turbolink. I'll try and pull the code(s) tomorrow, but am looking for ideas on why this would happen with no changes? Could my Razor Alky kit be siphoning alky into the up-pipe? Just had Chuck flow the injectors 2 years ago, FP is steady at 39# line-on and running...

At your age I figured popping, stalling and being smelly was normal Russ.:p

Pull a couple of plugs and see if they're wet or fouled.;)

Scanner shows one MALF, "coolant temp low". Tried cranking it again and got a couple huge intake backfires then nothing else. TL shows zero RPM for cranking speed, is that normal? All other parameters look good in TL...

There was something else. When I started it (successfully) the other day, the idle speed went to 1500 and tapping the throttle just made it go higher before it settled around 1200. I had Eric set my idle at 950 because I'd been having trouble with it stalling when the A/C cycled, but no other reason for it to jump to 1500 and settle at 1200. TPS was 0.43v with key on and engine off.

A CTS low malfunction is usually caused by the CTS going bad, secondarily, the connector and CTS prongs corrode. Once bad enough the corrosion causes an open circuit which the ECM will see as -40* (F or C). Most of the time I replace both the sensor and connector at the same time.

At first, I was thinking the low CTS would pump more fuel and cause the problems that I was having. After hooking up my scanner (TL), the MALF cleared and it shows the cooling temp to be ambient (47°). I did check the wiring (looks good) but I can ohm-check it later. When my few "pop" cycles of starting quit popping, I noticed no RPM's while cranking.

So, is there supposed to be an RPM value showing while cranking? Or is it too low to register?

I've seen that no RPM during cranking on PL as well as best as I can tell it's normal.

Popping out the intake is usually a lean condition. Maybe since it is stalling you have a vacuum line off somewhere and it's sucking way too much air. Or the MAF tube could be letting air in post-MAF and fueling is goofed up as a result.

Someday I'll get around to it, my time management skills have gone to sh!t since retiring. What's odd is it ran perfect last time out and has sat without anything but an occasional glance for the past few months. Guess it's trying to tell me something... :D

Determined that my 10 year-old Alky pump went kablooey after seeing the 1 gallon tank was completely sucked dry in 15 minutes of normal driving, ordered and rec'd new pump (thanks, Julio!) a week ago. It finally warmed up past 45° and I got to install the new pump and I'm back in business...
