I am wanting to treat the rust I have at the inside / bottom of my doors in my car. I was wondering which is better, easier to apply, last longer - POR-15 or Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator? Anybody have any experience with either product? Thanks for any suggestions or tips.

Por-15

I think you'll get a 50/50 split on what is best. I personally like the Eastwood products, easy to use, great results, long term great results, no compatibility issues. I have never used the POR products.

I'm very interested in this comparison as well. I have the inside of the car to do as well as the underside and I'd like to do it once.

Por-15

I believe there is a patent pending on the POR-15 product line. I also heard the guy that developed the product line went off on his own and has a product just like it, but sells it cheaper. I have a can in my garage of the new stuff and it will not come off ur hands without thinner just like POR-15. I paid $25 for a quart, compared to POR-15 thats selling it for 38.75 on their site. The new stuff is called magnent paint and shellac company inc. Amityville N.Y. 1-800-922-9981. email info@magnentpaints.com.

I'm using a spray Anit Rust with a extender tube:

Eastwood Company: Auto Tools, Body Repair, Classic Car Restoration, House of Kolor Paint, Powder Coating

Using this on the seams first, under seat rails, etc. Places where I can't get a brush. I really like this stuff, you can see it soak in. I also used it in the bottom of the doors and trunk lid seams. Then I'll do the foor in this:

Eastwood Company: Auto Tools, Body Repair, Classic Car Restoration, House of Kolor Paint, Powder Coating

Here is a write up of course it's on the Eastwood site, so take it for what it's worth:

Eastwood Company: Auto Tools, Body Repair, Classic Car Restoration, House of Kolor Paint, Powder Coating

I like POR-15, I used it on all my front end components, brake parts and calipers, and the rear end and brake drums. It still looks great except for the dust on it from my GN sitting around. I just bought another can to paint the rest of the underneath of my GN.

Thanks for the information! emailed him just sent..... ah, email failure. I will try the 800 # at a reasonable hour. I believe that it should be info@magnetpaints.com ok that email went through!

For those that have used POR15, their instructions say to wire brush, degrease, metal etch, and then paint with POR15. I thought that might be hard to do all those steps inside the door. Anybody try this or did you just wire brush and then paint POR15 dirrectly to the rust. Eastwoods rust enclapulator just stays to remove the loose stuff and paint. Just wondering if the extra elbow grease is worth it.

Thanks for any info, Craig

The degrease is only for greasy or oily parts, metal etch for bare metal. Wire brush the flaking rust and paint it. Done this many times to cars, trucks and farm equip. Works great!

Found the website...
Paint Over Rust to Stop Rust Permanently With Chassis Saver Truck & Auto Underbody Coating

They have an aluminum filled finish for filling and smoothing over pitted areas (which my car has on the drivers floor pan) like POR-15 but this stuff seems to combine the features of POR-15 with ease of apllication of Eastwood's rust encapsulator. I will give it a shot.

I'v used the gloss black chassis saver. I really like it.
