POR-20, Anyone use it???

I've got a mild steel THDP that I don't want to drop too much coin on. I picked up a pint of the stuff, going to coat the DP. I was looking for some feedback from anyone who has used this product....

POR-20 is a high temperature Aluminum paint is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1400° F, and is also extremely weather, salt and moisture resistant.

May as well, picked up the DP for cheap... I'll be in the market for a stainless before long anyway. It's interesting though, the instructions say that the coating does not fully dry until you put 300+ degree heat to it, then it bakes the coat on. Supposedly it won't dull or fade... I guess well see soon.

I can't comment on the downpipe, but I have used it on all of my turbos to keep them from rusting. I love the stuff. The picture below is after one year. It has never faded or blistered.

Wow... considering that I'm going to be doing a turbo swap when I put the THDP on I may put a coat on the exhaust housing of the TC. Did you coat the center section and did you have to take the turbo apart to prep it for the coating?

I used a small foam brush and I was able to paint the whole thing without disassembling anything.

That reminds me of the Eastwood manifold coating. That was good stuff when I used it 15 years ago. I don't think they ever rusted. I wish there was a coating that made the turbine look like fresh cast iron like when it was new. It was so purty back then.

If the POR-20 cleans up the Turbo good enough I may loose the Turbo shield. After that I'm gonna put the RJC Billet water pump and alternator pulleys... I think it would complement the powder coating. The motor will look clean and mean...

Hopefully you can go right over rust like the 15. The silver is good up to 1400 degrees. The black only up to 1200.

I have some Calyx. Think I'll try that first and if not happy will go to the Por-20.

POR 20 is an aluminum base paint, so it only comes in silver. The bracket is ceramic coated.

The black is called Black Velvet and is good up to 1200 degrees. It says POR 15 on the can, but is advertised as POR 20??

I think the POR-20 on the turbo & DP should clean up the engine compartment. I don't like the stock turbo shield, but do you think it would look good with or without?

Techline sells a Colorguard thats called "cast iron" I'm doing O.E. Hemi restoration
manifolds in it right now. 2,000 deg.

Is the the POR-20 UV resistant?

Looks like both products recommend blasting with fine sand or alumium oxide. Did either of you do that to prep the housing? I really don't want to take my turbo off to do that or mask off everything and blast in the engine compartment, although I do have a very small sandblaster for dental work that could be used. rmar, do you happen to have a pic of that "cast grey"?
