What is a ported Throttle body? also i see in some engine pics some dont have the metal tubing going to the throttle body running from the water line or whatever it is on the left side of the intake... can this be deleted some how?

When you port the throttle body it is machined for better flow. On the Hot-Air cars there is a lip after the throttle blade that you can get machined out to get more air flow. Also some people have noticed better throttle response....every little bit helps! I am unsure who is offering this service now-a-days.

As far as the coolant lines you can cap them off on the passenger side of the engine. Then you can remove the throttle body lines that carry the coolant through the throttle body. This is an old mod and is thought to avoid heat soak. (Hot coolant being plumbed through the throttle body)

Here are some pics of my ported throttle body. A machinist friend of mine bored it out for me. He also made the plug for the throttle linkage side where there is a spot you will bore thru to the outside. I removed the brass tubes for the IAC, and finished blending the bore. As far as the coolent running to the throttle body, you just remove them from the heater tubes. Then either block them off or loop a hose for one to the other on the heater tubes.

Steve did my old one.

It's for sale with a billet vacuum block if you need one.

So a ported TB is a good thing to do overall? How much you willing to sale it for?

Yeah restrictions on the inlet of your turbo are a bad thing.

I'll sell you mine for $60 shipped with the billet vacuum block. Still has the IAC and TPS and bracket on it too. Can't beat that with a stick.:D Just needs a trip thru the parts washer:eek:.

Later,Sean

WFO, the TB in your pic wasn't bored by me. In fact, with no plug on the side I think it's a stock untouched TB. Just clarifying that I wouldn't send one back looking like that. BTW I have a one here that I did that was used for two years and it still looks almost new. That customer swapped it in on an intercooled setup. Email me if anyones interested.

Just curious what bore did you go to on this? Looks awesome.

Hey Steve-

I could swear you did mine but it was over 10 years ago so it may have been Limit or someone else...

It doesn't look like mine is taken out as far as you take yours. Mine is about 59mm from what I can tell. Not sure how far you can go before you break thru the side, that may have been the limiting factor for whoever did mine. I know it's just a hair smaller than my 60-1 compressor housings(TA60 and TA61).

Do you go out to 62mm?

Yes I was doing them to 62mm. Same as the ones Jay Jackson also did. All of ours will have a disc on the side where that indent is to the right of the throttle lever in your pictures.

Thanks Jamie coming from you that means alot. You and your husband Karl have my utmost respect.

The bore was taken out to 60 mm to match my 60-1 compressor wheel in the hot air housing. I also milled down the throttle shaft a small amount as it sees no pressure only vacuum.

I didn't realize you could bore a hot air throttlebody out to 62 mm looks like it would be mighty thin. I do have another throttlebody laying around maybe we'll have to try that next. Then time to try a 61mm or 62mm billet wheel in the hot air housing. Aw shoot just dreaming more ideas than money.
