Poston Header Help

Hey guys, just put my poston headers on, my car sure quited down signifigantly in the engine compartment due to all the cracks in the stock ones. Im running into a problem though, I cant for the life of me get to the passenger side middle header lower bolt. Ive went through the wheel well, on top IT JUST WONT START!!!!!!!. Do you have to use an extra thin socket or what. The stock headers I did not have a problem with, due to the smaller pipes, but the postons are driving me nuts with this one bolt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hey

when i did mine i got it on then when i tightned it down the socket got stuck on the bolt and wouldnt come out so i had to leave it on there till it finally rateled of while driving. i would put that bolt in first then put all the other bolts in after that.

Yep, I know exactly which one your talking about. In fact I think I posted awhile back about installing these headers and mentioned that bolt.
I think the best solution would be to use new bolts, like the ARP header bolts with 5/16" (I think thats the size) hex heads on them. That would solve the problem right there, and be an all around improvement. Of course I was hard headed and went with the stock bolts too, but that is the way I would/should have done it.

Anyway, my solution at the time was basically what you were already thinking. I used a cheap, made in China socket that I found sitting around which had thinner walls. It still was a tight fit and was difficult, but worked.

Well I will keep messing with it, I will get some arp bolts soon, probably when I jerk the motor out and go through it. Hopefully I will get it on there.

Is your dp & up aftermarket also? If so there might be a little grinding necessary to make everything fit nice and snug. HTH

right tools for the job

I found out when installing my headers, that a ratcheting wrench from craftsman at sears, 11.99 liftime guarantee, got that bolt pretty snug. You gotta remember that torque is a pain with the heads, being that they strip easy. But the proper tools and the supplied bolts should do the trick!
