Hi everyone! First post here! I need some input from the community. I've run across an 86 GN for sale by the original owner. The car has 93,000 original miles on it and has a few mods,namely a bigger Walbro fuel pump and a limited slip. The car is in great shape both mechanically and physically. The owner was asking $11K but he said he would go $10,500. Is this a good deal? I would post pics but I can't do that yet with this being my first post. Thanks in advance for the help!

Get a DETAILED list of modifications. Stock wheeled? Good paint? Dents?
Trying to get a TR to run right when you don't have the full story can be a daunting task.
If all is well @ 93K miles, I would say 10K is an exceptional value.

I agree with notacarlo, it's a great price if you can confirm what kind of shape the car is in.

He does not have the stock wheels,which he says were stolen from the body shop he works at. Excellent paint,no dents. I test drove it with a friend of mine who owns an 86 himself to get a second opinion and he thought was a good buy. There were a few problem he pointed out. The front end seemed to float a little and the car pulled a little to one side. He also noted the radiator was little discolored and said it might need to be replaced in the future. There was also a small tear one of the front seats from when a detailer accidentally cut it with a screwdriver. Besides that everything looked fine. If someone can post the pics for me,you could see how it looks yourself and make a better judgment.

I'd crawl up under that thing. Looks rusty even from a sideview!
When my friend checked it out it didn't look bad. I definitely noticed it needed to washed off a little. Plus the camera isn't that good to begin with. I'll take a good close look in the daylight again.
When you drove it, did you get the "trademark" rattles from the front end/dash?
Look at the ball joints. Make sure the rubber boots aren't ruptured. Those wheels do not hurt the value of that car as they are on the "most wanted" wheel list for a TR.
Looks like a pretty car. Now find out if the motor's ever been opened up.
I'd buy it for 10.5.

No rattles from what I heard. Motor has never been opened up. In fact the owner kept the original air filter. Never replaced it with a K&N or better flowing filter,which is odd considering that's one cheap way to get more power. The more I keep thinking about it the more I want it. I just love how sexy those GNs are!
Paint job
You can tell it's a repaint it sticks out. That's a 5k savings if they did a good job. I know you said he had taken the badges off, looks like all 4 wheel wells don't have the black trim, does he still have the wheelwell trim and the trim on the trunk? Did he take the window trim off windshield and rear window when they painted it? The side window rubber looks painted in one pic. Hopefully it's just the alignment and that was causing it to stray. Consensus is buy the car they are awesome rides. Like notocarlo said if radiator is one of the only things it needs no big deal. Once you clean up the rest of the car it'll look great.

They did a great job in painting. The owner's father owns a body shop,where the owner works at. Yes,I forgot to mention the wheelwell trim. Only the rear wheelwell trim are on the car but he has the front trim. I'll see if he has the window trim as well but that's a moot point really. The pictures do not do the car justice. I just snapped some quick pics and left. Put a few thousand into it and it'll be a bat out of hell.
Going to put a deposit on the car today. I'm still going to get it but he'll hold if for me for a couple of weeks so that I may have enough time to sell the vehicles I no longer want. Anyone interested in a 78 Camaro project car and an stout small block and 350 trans? I intended on fixing up the Camaro as a street/strip car but it needed a HUGE amount of work to make it streetable. Sure I could have just gutted it and made it a straight drag car but what's the fun in having to trailer the car everywhere? Plus the reaction you get when you beat a straight drag car with some old Buick that you drove to the track is priceless! :biggrin:
