Im having some parts powder coated. I thinking about doing the tanks on my innercooler. Has anyone done this before. Any pro's or con's to it. What should I watch out for?

I/C tankz?/

Most likely not a good idea, Chris.. It will tend to "Insulate" the cooler and that's exactly what you don't want to happen... Let it get rid of as much heat as possible, wether thru the core or the surface of the tanks..

Thanks Chuck,
Didn't think about that...I guess I will go back with the spray can method.

But if you used flat black or "stove" black, would the manner in which it was painted (powdercoat vs. spray can) really matter? Flat black is purportedly able to dissipate heat better than bare metal. Isn't that what JetHot 2000 does?

Seems like Tony has posted in the past that powder coating did not significantly reduce heat transfer unless put on so thickly that it reduced air flow.

Seems like his ics are powder coated?

Steve,
Are you talking about Tony Dequik@ charged air? I would think that paint is paint. I have about 3 coats of spray can paint on there right now with no problems. I think that Red Armstrongs IC are powder coated..they sure look like it. I would think that it would be ok with a thin coat. I won't let them paint the center section.

PC or not?

I guess that begs the question: If black PC dissipates heat, why do the PC companies say the coating SIGNIFICANTLY reduces underhood temps????
I read that statement as they are telling us the heat stays in the headers and the DP, instead of going into the air under the hood and ending up in the intake air???
Thot the same would apply to an I/C..

Bottom line: Mine's not coated, so it's easily seen thru the grille as a WARNING to happless victums of the wrath of the darkside!:D :D

Back when you and I were about half as old, Chuck, it was fashionable to paint blocks flat black to aid in heat dissaption as I recall.

But then, I recall it being fashionable to put a little Ajax in the oil to help seat chrome rings so that takes care of fashion from a technology base.

AJAX!!!!

I AM old enuf to remember that!!! i remember Jenkins said[ and EVERYONE LISTENED!!] That the deal on the block paint was "a good trik to help cool the engine. HE ALSO said to paint the inner fender wells flat black to help cool the engine compartment....;)
He also drilled little holes in the tops of the header tubes... Next race, EVERYONE had holes.. no one knew why, they just KNEW that was why he was faster!!!

I never was a "fashon bug"
