Powerglide for a light car?

Would a powerglide be a suitable (best) choice for a 2100 pound stock block car? I'm worried about the RPM range the glide would create. The motor will be around 500-650 at the flywheel.

Is a 400 the way to go (horsepower drain and weight)?
Is a 350 a good alternative?

A 2004r will handle all of that. Why change everything? By the time you are done swapping, you could have put a quality 2004r in and still had all the ammedities..

The car has nothing right now. I'm trying to decide what to put in it. It's either a 350, 400 or a glide. I'm going to have 29-30" tall tires and want to run in the mid 140's with it. It is a tube chassis car with a 9" rear (4 link).

If you have a wide powerband, you can run a Glide. I'd suggest a 1.98:1 or a 2.08:1 low gear set, unless you want to run a lot of gear in the rear. If you have a narrow powerband you could run a 400 or a 200 4R. Personally, I'd build for a wide powerband and run the Glide. If you run a 400, you should look into aluminum drums and reaction carriers. That will make it near as light as a Glide with a steel direct drum. Of course, you can put an aluminum direct drum in the Glide too.
