powermaster making funny noise?!?!?!

Just recently, my powermaster started making a funny noise when the brake is applied. It sounds almost like a fuel pump turning on, and when you let off the pedal, it stops. There is no change in brake performance or fluid levels, just a goofy sound. Is mine on its last leg or is there just a seal going bad? I have 2 new GM spares laying around, so I guess it would hurt to put the new one in, this one has lasted 8 years. Anyone else ever had this problem????

Might be the powermaster motor turning on and running, which might indicate a leak somewhere in the brake system. Mine "making a funny noise" preceded the powermaster unit going out by about 2 or 3 thousand miles. Could also just be noisy. I don't believe in replacing them till they go out. On the other hand, if you have a couple of spares, Hmmm??
