I'm inquiring about things I should do an check on a GN that has been in a sealed garage covered for the last 10 or so yrs that has never been cranked in this time. I hear some people say to try to drain the oil outta the motor be fore you try to start, that over time it goes soupy. Also heard that over a period of time the anti -freeze sets up hard an scaly an that you would be wise to install new radiator to before new start. This car is show room new no joke, an if I told what I will pay for it you wouldn't believe me.Meaning its low priced. So any helplor pointers would greatly be appreciated. Also found a time slip in the glove box t hat read 8.15 in 1/8th back in 1989. Surely its not this car that ran that cause its bone stock still with the cat org. plugs everything.

My car sat for 8 yrs with $hitty paint. I changed the oil, drained the gas tank, and put some good gas in it. The antifreeze looked good but after I ran it for a while I would change that too. Disconnect the ECM wire coming from the battery and crank it over a couple of times to get oil pressure before you start it.

Take the plugs out and spray some light oil in the cylinders The antifreeze will have to be flushed because as soon as it gets hot it will breakdown and cause you a major overheat. The tranny fluid and filter should be changed as well. As mentioned disconnect the ECM or the fuel pump to keep it from starting to prelube a bit.

thanks

Will WD-40 do fine to lubricate the cylinders > What do you suggest. Is it rare to find a GN with roll up windows.

Pull the motor and replace every seal and gasket, make it pretty and put it back in.:) Well, its just my opinion I guess.

WD40 is not a lubricant, it is more a "water displacer", rust preventive, and a pretty good solvent. If it was my car I'd squirt Marvel Mystery oil in the cyls, it lubricates and will burn off relatively clean.

After 8 yrs I would not want to crank the engine to build oil pressure ... all the oil has drained away from bearings, and it could take a looong time to re-lube everything. I'm cautious and conservative, I would pull the cam sensor and turn the oil pump with an electric drill to build oil pressure.

read up on cam sensor adjusting first, so you can re-install and adjust it correctly.

Sorry should have specified. Marvel will work fine. As for the crank windows there are a few cars with them. I don't think they are super rare, just not the norm.

Most people bought their GNs off of the lot and paid close to sticker because they were difficult to get in many parts of the country. Many times, special orders took months and only got filled during GN build periods when you could get them.

Dealers knew this and ordered loaded cars to maximize profits so crank windows were not particularly common. Our family "T" has crank windows because they were willing to wait for the car with the options and price that they wanted. You will find people on both sides, those that would not have a car without power windows, and those that prefer crank windows.
