I have a converter that needs to go in to be cleaned. I called the company that made the converter and they want $257.00 which seems high. I am sure there are places that will do it cheaper but am I better sending it to the company that made it or just someone familiar with these converters? Thanks Jerry

There are places that "can" do it cheaper.
If this is a high end converter, if it were me, I would send it where it was built.
Once again though.... there are many places to get this job done. Probably cheaper.

Funny. I just went through this today with several local trans shops. I was quoted from 125.00 to 225.00. None of them would just open it up and clean it. They all priced a "rebuild" service. Come to find out that there is only one place locally (with in 50 miles or so) that actually rebuilds them and I found out that the other places actually sends them to this guy and then puts there mark up on the price. 257 isn't that far above the highest I found but you can certainly get it done cheaper. Hang up on anyone that ask "its out of a Grand what...?" Happened to me today and even after explaining what car and what trans and what converter I still didn't feel too confident that they knew any more than when we started.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the information and yes it is a high dollar converter. I will be contacting you soon Brian about a trans build. Thanks again. Jerry
