Yesterday I went to buy some PPG Vari Prime Etching primer to paint my soon to be stripped motorcycle gas tank. The salesman (a new man with little to no experience) told me I could not use this primer on an engine as it would quickly burn off. My question
is can you buy a hardening agent for this primer that would prevent burn off. 3 years ago a paint and body man gave me three small cans of primer, reducer and a catalyst and told me it would not burn off my soon to be painted 406" small block chevy engine I am putting in my 84 Z28. However he ahs now gone out of business (retired) and the cans are not labeled and have dried up so I can't use them........

Any help would be appreciated guys!

Thanks guys,

Woody

Except for the around the exhaust ports on the heads and the exhaust manifolds, the engine doesn't get hot enough to burn the paint off. You can use any kind of paint ya want. ;)
