I went to the track last weekend made three passes had a little knock on the topend every time so I would get out of it. Lack of octane, I left to much pump gas in the tank. 4th pass I was coming down the return road and my car started to run rough and then it died. Now when I crank it you can hear the engine pinging like you have spark plug wires crossed and it is really hard to crank. I found a vacuum line blown off I put it back on but the car still does not run any better, any ideas?

May have hurt something, when that vacum line comes off that effect fuel regulator, dont it? Look it over good, and a compression check.

sounds like you may have dropped a valve

More info- what vac line popped off? When you crank the car, does is develop any oil pressure?

Condition of the plugs?
Look at the rockers.
Broken valve spring?
Loss of a vac line will drop the boost signal to the FPR, regardless of where it came off.

Always sorry to hear this kind of bad news. Personally I would have a look at the drained oil and cut open the oil filter. Then pull the plugs and do a compression test... somewhere to start, also how old is the timing gear/chain?
Good Luck,
Chuck

What causes that to happen?

just a severe speculation!!! probably popped a head gasket between cylinders and could be getting cross compression and intake between them and it also sounds like a timing chain issue. cant speculate till testing and teardown

The motor only has about 5-6000 miles on it. The timing chain is new. The vacuum lines next to the egr (that little box that attaches to the valve cover) I don't know what it is called.

egr solonoid

I have a good cam sensor. When I get back to town I will swap it to see if that is the problem. The car will start it just runs really bad. I can hear it pinging sometimes at 1500 rpms. It will not idle at all.

I changed the cap on the cam sensor and no change. Do I need to change the stalk also? What about pushrods? What does it sound like when you bend one? What causes it? I am spinning my motor up to 6000 rpms. Any ideas?

What did you find?
How about a comp test, a leakdown? Someone mentioned the oil filter. What did you find there?
Also, when you get it back together, ditch the 3.73's..3.42 will work just fine, and bring the engine r's down a bit ..
