My '87 has been overheating. I'm thinking of replacing the thermostat.

Do I need to purchase a 160 degree thermo?

Can these be bought at a 'big name' automotive parts store, such as Kragens or AutoZone?.. Or should I purchase one through a Turbo Regal specialty site/store?

Any comments or hints would be appreciated..Thanks!

You won't get a 160 at a local store, maybe a 180. Some guys have mentioned that they trim a Chevy 160 to fit, but I dunno.

Unless the current thermostat is bad, the 160 won't help your overheat problem. Won't hurt to try tho if you want a 160 anyway.

Also, be sure to get a new water outlet neck if it's original and an o-ring. ALWAYS use a new o-ring. Been there.

i belive that you can order a 160 stat from either postons or kirban. I am not fully sure tough

Your chip does not need to be set for a 160 stat. You can use a 160 stat with a stock chip.

However, if you have a chip for 160, then you must have a 160 stat.

You can surely use a stock chip with the 160* thermo, but you will not find it anywhere like a autozone or anything like that, go to Jaysgn.com they have it very cheap too, it isn't a regular size like all the other cars so thats why it must be special ordered, but check your rad might have clogged cores which is cuasing your over heating problem.
