I just got one of those Jegs 15 gallon fuel cells with the sending unit built-in. Obviously this has to be mounted in the trunk. What is the ideal way of doing it with a Weldon 2015 external pump? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

heres a shot

Is it ok to mount the fuel pump inside the trunk next to the fuel cell? Or does it have to mount under the bottom of the car?

I have mine mounted in the trunk next to the fuel cell. The only downside of mounting it the trunk is the lack of air for cooling if you drive alot on the street, but I dont put on alot street miles

This is obvious, but you must have a good firewall between the passenger compartment, and the trunk space if you have a fuel cell and pump in the trunk. (might want to seam seal it, too.) That's alot of "Junk in yer Trunk":D

Yes, it was alot of work when i did my rear firewall properly, but better to be safe then sorry!

Its safer to put the pump bellow and behind the sump for gravity fed pumps.

this idea might help. i just cut the trunk. inverted the straps and sealed it up.
it sticks up 4in into the trunk and still leaves enough room for a pair of mounted drag slicks in the back.

That's an awesome idea but I really don't want to cut up my trunk:eek: I have a hard enough time drilling holes in the plastic wheel wells for mounting stuff!:(

Fuel pump is DB2025A. Fuel cell is a 20 gal Summit with fuel gauge. I removed the fuel outlets and replced them with weld in bungs. The feed is a -12AN and I think the drain is a -6AN or -8AN (you can make it whatever you want). The feed out of the pump is a -10AN.

My return is a -8AN. I replaced the return fitting with a -8AN bulkhead. I reused the sealing washer. You have to reach into the tank and attached a piece of hose on the return to reach to almost to the bottom of the cell. You don't want the fuel dropping from the top and getting aerated.

I also removed the foam from the cell in fear that it might detiorate and clog the filter.

I will be adding a shut off valve coming out of the cell so I change filters with out draining the cell.

If you are running a plastic cell any protruding parts of the cell have to be covered by metal. Except the rear where the outlets are. I chopped the center out of the trunk for the sump to hang down below the floor. I just bent up a piece of sheet metal and covered the sump. My pumps and filters are mounted on the bottom side beside the cell.
