Can any one please tell me the pros and cons of an alky injector? I know most of the pros. I am mainly looking for the cons if any. I think I heard that the alky will run through O2 faster then without it.
Alcohol does not damage O2 sensors at all. The only cons are that if your pump fails at high boost or if you run out of alcohol (your fault) you may blow a head gasket.
Alcohol is more expensive than propane in the long run, but the propane startup costs are much higher
I've been running the SMC kit for close to 3 years now. The pros are great horsepower on the street with cheap gas. The biggest con i can think of is the cost for tires. My car would light up the tires at anything below 50 mph. I had to buy Nittos just so it was safe to drive.
I would venture to say at least 40-50% of the people on this board do use it. That is a lot. Some guys with REALLY fast cars dont use it, because they drive so little and have so much time and $$ invested in their cars that running anything but race gas would be foolish.
Some guys simply dont want to mess with it. It is one more thing to tune.
I will say this, no TR I ever own will be without either alcohol or propane
Ummm...yeah, blackbuick87 pretty well covered it. A lot of ricers with turbos run it, mustangs with turbos run it, supras, and a lot of guys with superchargers run it. Just about any street car with forced induction benefits from alky injection.
Do a search on SMC Enterprises. Steve offers a nice kit at a reasonable price. Excellent customer service and tech help! Just bought mine and ready to install
How long does it take you guys to run through 5 gals of alky? Can you put it in to comparison to a tank of pump gas? I lead foot all around town so also take that in to it.
I really had no idea on how much I was going to use. I have zero experience with alky.
How much driving do you do? Is this a street car, track car or both? I drive my car about 12,000 miles a year and go to the track about two times a month during the season. Have any idea how many gals of alky I'm going to go through?
