What are the pro's and cons to performing a manual shift on the 200's. I have been working on getting the car to shift automatically at WOT at points I desire with no real luck. I am thinking of purchasing a shifter and when I decide to go into race mode just shift manually.

Cons as follows ;

* Over revving the motor
* damage to transmission????

Pros -

* I can run it to the RPM I desire

Can you guys help me out with this and then make a suggestion on the shifter I should use. What I have is a real strong street performer no real desire to put it on the track.

No one has an aftermarket shifter, everyone is using the stock ****er??

In a well built trans you should not have problems shifting manually.
Before I got my current Buick, I shifted my 2004R at 6800-6900 behind a small Chevy.
Sometimes I shift manually in the Buick, but not often. Just when I am goofing off.
As you pointed out, the only downside is possibly overrevving. You need to shift a touch earlier than you think. The GN`s make rpm quickly with the right converter.

I used the QuickSilver from B&M in my GN for years and liked it. It fits under the console nicely, and does not really look to out of place.

So the quick silver fits without cutting up the console? Does it allow you to simply push or pull to shift without worrying about shifting from 1st to 3rd?

That is the problem I have with my stock shifter the gate allows me to skip 2nd all together.

By the way thanks for the feedback.

The QuickSilver is a ratchet type shifter. Each gear is individual.
You should have no problems hitting the desired gear.

The B&M Megashifter is another ratchet shifter that works great for manually shifting your 200-4R. It installs without cutting up the console. Arizona GN has a detailed How-To on their website.
