Now that the GT35 is out of the picture due to reliability, I'm now considering either of these 3 turbos, but I'm really concerned about spoolup. My goals are low to mid-11s so I'm not looking at TE44/TA49s, I feel those aren't going to get me much more than the stocker. I have a 2600-2700 stall convertor.
The PT51 looks to be a good option, was wondering how durable these are with the Ball Bearing and would it spool as quickly as a TE44 if I got a BB PT51 or even a BB TE60 or TE61??

I don't really want to get a 3k+ stall convertor for street use.

I have run the PTE51 with the stock D5 and a 3000 stall Vigilante.

Worked well but best with the 3000 stall obviously.

Quick spool code in the chip to lean out the fueling and put heat in the exhaust gasses as well as wastegate control spool code helped a lot when using the D5 converter.

No need for ball bearings in smaller turbos in MHO.

I'd still think of getting a quality 3000 stall converter and perhaps a BB 65 or 66. :)

If not the 2700 stall should work fine with a good chip and the normal PT51 or similar sized turbo. Perhaps a 60 or 61 if the thought of using a 51, with it's questionable history, scares you.

Probably more lost blades on 51's than GT35's. ;)

A GT6152E will spool as fast or faster than any of those you mentioned and make way more power. I will give a money back if not happy deal and a 1 year (from date of purchase) warranty on it.

OK Mike, send me a GT6152E and will put it on a local low 12 sec. car with a 3000 converter and a TA-49. Will do some track runs and post the results.

Of course send me an invoice too!:)

Let me clarify, the GT35 was out due to performance with the Buick housing, not reliability. The PT51 just doesn't seem to have positive feedback from everyone thats had one from my hours and hours of research, the TE60 does seem to be proven and well liked by most.
Do you have some more info Mike on that GT61 that you could share, I'd be interested if its more power and spools as good or better?
