Hey fellas......been noticing lately that my car pulses a little or surges while in OD. It only does it at low rpms, in the 45-55mph range, with very very light throttle applied. It seems to get "worse" or more noticable when I am on a flat road and back off the throttle a tad. It feels like a small buck, or like Ive been saying, pulse. Its fairly consistant too. Other than that symptom, the trans seems fine. Shifts nice and firm, pulls nicely with no noticable slipping. And Im pretty sure its not the TCC soleniod, its darn near brand new, as is the fluid and filter. Thanks

PS- I have heard that with the DIS system on our cars, if an increase in secondary wire resistance (or open) is present, during wastespark firing, will cause rpm to jump around a tad at light throttle with the TC locked up and/or under boost. But my car does not buck under boost, runs great, not a hicupp. Plus, ignition system should be up to par.

Mine does the same thing too, I think. Are you referring to a slight sort of jump in the transition from coast to light throttle when crusing down the highway in OD? I think it feels like the converter either locking or unlocking, whatever it does when you are coasting. It only lasts a split second, and like you said around 45-55. i figuerd it was just a quirk of the lockup function in a slightly looser converter than stock. It's pretty new to me, before I had my tranny done the converter was shot so it would not lock up, so I could never feel this. Anyone else heard of this?

Its not the TCC, err the locking or unlocking of the TCC. (It may be, but what I mean its not the normal function of it). Its not just one shudder or pulse. Its not a single shudder, if I dont move throttle positiion, it keeps shuddering.............somebody, anybody?

Neil,
Sometimes you can get this "chugging" during cruise or light throttle when the fuel mixture is slightly lean. Its amplified when the torque converter is locked. The computer is trying for an air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1. It could be that whatever chip you're running is tweaked to be leaner (or maybe lean cruise). Or your oxygen sensor is not quite right. I would try an O2 sensor first.

Jim Testa Chip......always get white plugs when I change them in this car. However, BLMs are usually "right on" or on the rich side, along with my 02 MV's at WOT. Im pretty sure Jim's chip does have lean cruise mode on it.......and umm, Ive been driving around on an 02 that has seen leaded race gas for probably over a month now........guess Ill change that tomorrow. Thanks Eric
