Ok. I am very confussed. I was reading Chris's book and it says the clearance between the pump rotor or slide to the body must be more than .001 but not more than .002. Ok this is where i get confused. When you go buy a replacement rotor on the internet or local parts place none of them give you the depth of these parts. I have measured the one I pulled out and I come up with .705". Can I assume all these drop in replacement pump internals are .705? Did GM use this measurement as a standard in new pump construction? Learning about transmissions is something I have always wanted to conquer. Thank You for all the help.

You can fine tune it buy buying individual slide rotors that are of different thicknesses or plane the surface of the pump housing to get desired depth.. hth

After market usually offers one or two that are suppose to cover all the different pocket depths. I measure out the pocket and go to GM and order the one I need. That way I get the measurement I want and no modifying of the parts to make fit. I don't remember off hand how many GM has but there are a bunch to choose from.

Thanks guys for the imfo. When you say aftermerket offers one or two that are suppose to cover all the different pocket depths. Do you know how that works? If there is only one replacement size aftermarket does it come with special parts (shims maybe) to close up the clearances if there is too much? What if the pocket has been machined, can an aftermarket still be used? How does the aftermarket offer just one size and it still work in the pump? Has there ever been a time where the aftermarket has been too larger and bind in the housing? Does anyone know the aftermarket size?

Aftermarket only supplies the (used to be 2) part numbers that cover .701"-.716" and then the rest is up to you to make sure the pocket fits that piece when I would rather get a pump kit that measures to what I need. No shims. I have the pump halves "faced" and perpendicular to stator. I have them make the pocket depth to the rotor dimensions if I have to have that done. If the pocket is good and flat, I just buy the kit I need to fit it.

Thank you everyone for your help. I think I made a mistake. I am going to reinstall all the original parts from the pump. But I lost track of all the vanes. They are all in a pile. Since they have been used do they have wear patterns? Or can I just put them back anyway?

Thanks Chris. Can I purchase replacement vanes alone and run them in a used slide? If so do you sell them? Chis I will be in touch soon. Just trying to figure out what I need. So far I know for sure it is going to be a direct drum and your shift kit.

They are included in my master rebuild kit.IF you are building the trans you should get it.

Yes. They all seem to be to thick. Everything has to be measured. Or just buy a new pump assembly from CK.
