Hi all again , ? I got a 1983 2004R ,8 checkballs in the case under the valve body & suposed to be 3 checkballs in the valve body itself ,,in mine I didn`t put the 3 in the valve body ,what is the purpose of them ,is it going to cause any problems ,, will it affect my shift firmness ? Tranny shifts good other than I`m going to block the 1-2 accumulator ,has a ( Yah I know ) B&M Street & Strip kit in it now , is it safe to run it without them ,, Bill

Put them in or you are going to have problems. You could leave out the center one but its not advisable. Blocking the accumulators is not advisable either, especially the 3-4. Get a manual from CK.

Hi what problems am I going to have , that is what I am trying to find out ? what is the actual purpose of them , Bill..

Bill,
Listen to bison, he knows what he is talking about.
The rear checkball MUST be in place, the center one is for 2nd gear and can be left out but doesn't need to be, and the front one is for 4-3 downshift control, if left out it causes a harsh downshift.

You CANNOT shortcut work on a transmission.
If you leave something out, you must go back in and fix it. There isn't anyway around it.

If you aren't willing to get it right, you'll be money and time ahead to drop it off with someone who will.

Okay ,, was curious as to their function , truck is going into shop next week to get fixed up ,,thankyou Bill

Hi again ,been trying to read up on checkballs and now I am under the asumpsion that ,, when a clutch is applied the checkball blocks the fluid ( oil ) after it is applied so as to hold pressure on that clutch or band , as in my case with the 3 balls missing my tranny is not holding the presure to keep them appled properly ?? Am I right ,or have I got the answer wrong ?? thanks Bill

The rear ball is the only one that MUST be there on this trans, and it is deleted for a transbrake, the other two will affect shift harshness but not keep the trans from operating.

I'm not sure why you would be willing to install a valve body kit, and not fix your mistakes once you realized what you had done.
