Need some info to clarify my understanding of xylene. Assuming I am using alky and want to keep the ocatane a little higher than 93, I am thinking of adding xylene.
1. What does Xylene do as far as damage to any part of the engine
2. Is it bad to add xylene, pros and cons of it
3. How much to add to a tank of 93
4. With Razors kit, is it still ok to use xylene

A lot of gasoline has xylene in it, right from the pump. It's one of the many, many chemicals used to get the right blend at the right price. Somewhere around on this site, and certainly on GnTType.org, there is a "blending" chart, that tells how much to add to get max octane. It's about 1/4 t to 1/3 xylene, the rest 93 octane gas, as I remember. It costs more than gasoline, that's one drawback to using it. But probably the blend is cheaper than buying race gas, and it won't hurt the O2 sensor.

A 3/1 ratio of gas to xylene should yield an approx octane rating of 100. If you run xyele in your tank often, I believe that you are supposed to mix in a small amount of Marvel Mystery Oil. I wouldn't think you would need xyelne if running alky.

xfiturbo if you start running low 11's to high 10's 5 gal wont be enough you'll run tank dry on a hard launch.
running xylene at 3/1 will yeild 100 octane. w/alky as well you should easily be able to run 25 #'s on the street. no down side to xylene except cost. always use a couple of oz's of mmo or tranny fluid for lube because xylene has no lubrication in it like gasoline.

I've been mixing up a 95-96 octane fuel using xylene for several years, and no known problems. I was told to add 1-1.5 oz Marvel's Mystery Oil (MMO)/gal xylene, because xylene is "dry". This helps keep the proper lubrication.

1.5 gal xylene
8.5 gal 91 octane
1.5 oz MMO
=
94.8 octane (~$3.03/gal @ $2.60/gal for 91 octane pump gas)

I'd LOVE to know where to get xylene at $2.75/gal though. I have an account with Sherwin Williams, and their price to me is now $5.50/gal. I suspect that post is quite old.

I got tired of the expense of Xy/Tul and am sold on alky for street use(with 93 oct) I may not be getting all the power possible, but 25+ boost any time I want it is a lot better than ensuring I have enough mix in the tank. Street battles are over pretty quick, then its back to normal prowling

Zylene is 117 octain. Three gallons of 93 + one gallon of zylene will give you an octain value of 99. 93+93+93+117= 396. 396 devided by 4 =99. 2 gallons of 93 +one gallon of zylene =101 octain. Tranny fluid works great as a lubricant and people have been doing it for many years. It's cheaper than Marvels. If you want to run higher octain with your Alky, you'll have better protection from detonation. There are no downsides other than expence. Since when does a real hot rodder ever consider the cost of horsepower.Hot rodders are some of the stupidest, most illogical, selfish, and impulsive people on the planet and I have the reciepts to support my theory.

According to your signature, and my theory,I think so. What warped kind of logic does a person have who pays $2,000.00 for a downpipe, turbo, and torque converter he doesn't need, with money he hasn't made yet,to impress people he hasn't met and never will? What idiot would do this? You and me. Stupd! Stupid! Stupid!

YUP!! But: It IS SO much fun embarassing those Mudstain guys in front of all their buddies. ALMOST instant gratification ;) .

There is no downside to adding octane. But make sure your doing it for the rite reasons.

Motor will knock if run too lean.. irreguardless of octane. Motor will knock if you dont spray enough alcohol if your running on limited octane. Motor will knock if you run timing that exceeds the fuel in your system.

Becuase you run 116 doesnt stop you from blowing your motor up. If that was the case.. sign me up for 10 barrels.

If the alcohol kit is doing its job, throw as much boost as your greed level desires. There is no limit to how much boost you can run once dialed in.. the issue is getting dialed in. And racing with an empty fuel tank is a sure fire way to blow your motor up. Alky or not. I always try and race with a full tank or 3/4 full. Puts weight on the back tires.. pump is real happy.

Even if you tell them you're approaching 700 hp. they will not beleive you if they hear the car runnig with a quiet and smooth idle. That's so bitchin'. They can't say you lied. They refused to believe the truth. And it's a Buick. Everybody knows they aren't high performance machines. Lets race. Hey,how did you like the 4CEFED applique in my third brake light?
