Hi,
I recently purchased a kerosene forced air heater and it recommends kerosene, #1 and #2 deisel, Jet, or JP-8 for fuel. They told me at the store that #2 deisel was home heating oil and you can get that at the pump. I'm using kerosene in it right now but I paid about $4.50 a gallon for it.

My qusetion is, is the deisel fuel I get at the pump #2 deisel?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes you can get #2 through the pump. Most around here are labeled as such.

Will the diesel work in all the kerosene heaters? I have an old torpedo heater i use.

The problem around here is that no one speaks English at the gas stations so if it's not written on the pump I have no way in telling if it's #1 or 2.

The Shell station near me sells "V power" deisel. Does anyone know if that's #1 or 2?

Shell is #2 Diesel less than 15 ppm
Home heating #2 oil also has red Die in it.
Higher Sulfur content 300 PPM
Use to be over 500

Kero burns cleaner ( number 1)
Diesel second, less sulfur
Home heating oil third

Some states sell "off road diesel" at the pump, VT. is one No road taxes

I've put diesel in a kerosene heater before and I would not recommend it. The kero burns cleaner. The diesel will burn and you would not notice 'til later. When you blow your nose, it'll be all black. I know this from a job I was on and they're were running air samples during demolition. The air capsules turned black and so did our noses.

And since you are from NJ, the diesel at the pumps at this time of the year is winterized #2 (prevent gelling).

Anything out of the pump will be fine for your multi-fuel heater. I just bought one yesterday as well. 200,000 BTU. Kicks out some heat!

pay a little more

for the fuel and your health will be better in the long run- also open a window (or something) a little for fresh air provision

I agree use the Kero and crack a window
Get a CO sensor too if you plan on using it a lot, Better to be safe
