I'm dealing with it now on my totalled TTA, The company is Allstate, accident was other ladies fault, they accepted 100% of blame. Car has 140,000 miles, but had a $5000 paint job 2 years ago, motor is completely rebuilt with JE's, comp roller cam, injectors, turbo, applied ss downpipe and exhaust, ect. Trans i3 3 years old, new factory rims and tires (rims were stored just installed) and new springs and shocks. Interior was fair at best with seats that looked like they had 140,000 miles on them. First offer on car was $14,800 plus another $1200 for tax, total about $16,000, with a buy back option of $2,200. The adjuster informed me that they calculate buyback by taking 15% of cars value. I did not accept first offer and they are going to have an independent appraisor do an appraisal. If its less I still get the $16,000, if it's more I get the larger amount. If I still don't agree with him I can have my own appraisal done and then if it's higher, they will bring in an independent appraisor to reach an agreement. But concerning buyback, it's really nothing more than a way to recoup some of their money, as I'm not sure any salvage yard would give them that much for the car, as it was a pretty heavy hit, destroying the frony clip and the front sub-frame and buckling the rear unibody.
