My son and I were trying to adjust the TPS on his 87 GN. We were able to set the idle setting to .42 with no problem but we are having difficulty setting the WOT setting above 4.4. We have it set at 4.3 now. Are we doing something wrong? Any tips?

Its just one of those things where you make a small adjustment, lock it down & then check your readings. Repeat until satisfied.

The Scanmaster instructions state that you should aim for 4.40 to 4.60 volts, but 4.20 to 4.80 is still OK. Do not exceed 4.80.

Good luck

It's easier to set WOT first! loosen both screws enough that it can easilly be moved. Slide the TPS as far forward as it will go!!! That will maximize your WOT setting. Snug both screws just enough to keep it from moving. Check your settings and you'll likely have to adjust the idle value. To best do so, leave the bottom screw snugged enough to keep it from sliding backward. Loosen the top screw just enough to allow the "nose" of the tps to be tapped up or down to get your idle value set. It doesn't take much movement, that's why I just tap the nose (connector) up or down in tiny incraments. Then tighten both screws.

I agree with the previous posts but if 4.2V at wot bothers you, there are a couple of things you can check. First, measure the voltage between the TPS grey wire and black wire (ground). It should be 5V and any less will reduce your wot reading. The 5V is supplied by the ecm (pin C14).
If the +5V is good, then make sure the throttle is actually full open. Have someone push down the gas pedal hard while you check the meter. The most common causes of low tps wot volts are the transmission tv cable preventing full wot and/or a floor mat is interfering with the gas pedal.

4.3 volts is enough. Don't dwell on it. Raising it a couple of tenths isn't going to make any difference.

On some sensors you can only get perfect readings by filing off those raised grooves or guides that limit travel of the half moon washers. You should be good as you stand now, but as suggested always check pedal movement of the throttle blade, not just hand movement underhood.

Your readings normally reads a tenth higher with the engine running vs key on no start.
