well i measured the rods i had and they were what appears to be stock 8.690"
on an 85 turbo riv hot air block, stock 85 shim gaskets and a set of 8445 heads
my biggest right angle guage was too small to measure the preload with the two valves closed(it was a .040" guage)
there was an easy .030" or better between top of plunger and bottom of reataining clip
so if i measured in the correct posistion tdc valves closed, and suposed to measure from top of plunger to bottom of reatainer wire i come up with 2 conclusions
either a: these heads were shaved something awfull,or
b: there is a difference between 85 and (86, 87) as far as distance from lifter to rocker arm(assuming factory gaskets and unshaved heads)
i was kinda hoping i would have come up to short and i could have measured, but now i dont have a guage big enough to measure the preload
any tips or sugestions would be appreciated
thanks
