replaceing the stock air clean with a big mouth shorty engine compartment stye, my question is does it just fit perfect more or less or is their cutting or drilling involved.

Nope. Just enbolt a few things and it should be more-or-less a plug 'n play setup. Sometimes it may be necessary to turn, or "clock" the inlet pipe just a bit so that you have clearance from the alternator/rad hose support/driver's side intercooler bracket though. I have an old Kirban's 3" MAF inlet pipe that didn't have a sufficient enough bend near the turbo, although I'm sure most of the newer pipes are fabricated a little better for more clearance.

hey u think i should get the kirban pipe, or the big mouth shorty style...the car is mostly stock, is it worth removing the canistor

A 3" solid MAF pipe is available from almost any vendor. To use one you will have to remove the stock air filter housing assembly and possibly relocate/move the fuel vapor canister. The gains will be fairly modest on a stock setup, but you'll love it when you can actually hear the turbo.
