i was in the process of tearing down the top end of my 85 GN and by accident i knocked a couple of pushrods from where i had them matched up with each lifter (to keep the wear patterns consistant), and now im not sure where each respective pushrod went.

is it really a concern to keep the same pushrods/lifters matched up? i heard somewhere that each "set" will develop its own specific wear pattern, and mixing them up may cause problems. if this is the case, im thinking i should just buy new ones. however, will this cause the same type of problem if i try to use new pushrods with old lifters? and if i also need to replace the lifters, would the cam need to be replaced as well?

please help me out, im worried this one small mistake will snowball into the car needing major repair

push rods in wrong location

Dont worry bout the push rod being mixed up,its the lifters being mixed up that would really cause a problem. The lifters establish a certain wear pattern for each cam lobe that they ride on,DONT mix these up. As for the push rods, mix em up is ok------

whew!! glad to hear that. i left the lifters alone, i just wanted to pull the heads and clean them up a bit. the lifters are still in their respective bores and i plan to leave them there
