My 200-4r bit the dust a while back and want something better. Lately i've seen the f-body guys start to use this trans a lot more since there are now crossmembers out there that allow the 4l80 to be used in the 4th gen f-body. I think it would be better for me to use this trans for my up-coming stage build since it's tougher than anything else out there (except maybe a Lenco) and parts are readily available. The trans i have in mind is this one:

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L80E.htm

It has all the best upgraded parts available for the 80 and requires no core... the price is a little steep, but for simplicity i think it would be a good investment. And i actually want the reverse-manual VB for the fun factor :D (last car i rode in with one made me completely jealous and determined to have one).

What has to be done to fit this in the GN? Any clearance issues? Adapter plates?

....As a side question, could a Lenco be used in a GN? Anyone tried it?

Thanks,
JB

$2895.00:eek:

You can put about a 3rd of that into a Turbo 400 and never look back! They took all the electronics out of it. It has no lock-up either. Thats a waste! Just to have a 4th gear:rolleyes:

Don't waste your money.

Just my $.02

Point taken.... but this isn't going to be a track only car, therefore i don't want to drive down the road at 60-70mph buzzing at 2500-3k rpm. Built TH400 + GV overdrive unit + custom DS + any other wiring/bracing and such would come out well over that $2895. The GV is $2200 alone.

Not sure of the bolt pattern problem or other things.... hoping someone here knows what needs to be done.

TIA

Yes it is. You would have to get a adapter plate(if they make one) or cut the bell housing off and put a JW ultra bell on it.

HTH,

With as much as the 4L80E weighs in comparison to other trannies, I would go with a CK AOD and be done with it. The AOD is a tough tranny and Chris knows what he is doing. :D
