im going to be swaping a GN engine/trans into a car for a sleeper project and im concerned that it would be too noticeable with the sound of the exhaust.

is there any exhaust systems that are extremely quiet but has minimal to no performance loss?

I run the hooker cat back from summit.... mandrel bent... around $300... hard to beat.... and isn't too loud either....

I run

hooker exhaust system, with dyno max turbo mufflers,( 2 of them)
NO droning, very quiet, ever so slight exhaust note at idle, ( no cat conv)
I love it!

Geat job Bob! That is the same system we have been building for the last 8 years or so. THAT system is VERY quiet and has ZERO drone. And it will not impede performance on anything under 650 hp. A local guy has the same system on his StageII car (in 3") (and both of his street T-Types) and on the chasis dyno it cost him 7 (SEVEN) horespower. This was verified with back to back testing. By uncorking the exhaust, it gained 7 horsepower is all. This is on a 900 hp StageII. His street car runs 10.70's on pump gas and alcohol. If you can find someone to build it for you, this is the BEST system you can put on your car. It costs alot more than a Hooker system, but if your main goal is to be church mouse quiet, then this is it!:) P.S be sure the rear exhaust hangers are BEEFY! the typical thin strap won't do the job. They'll bend and may cause the muffler to fall to the ground or the pipes will hit the differential. Again, great job.

that 3 muffler system is interesting.... but its not going to be in a g-body. it is going to be in a 87 camaro. kinda a street money maker, and i dont want anyone to suspect the turbobuick.

Low restriction

Hi,
You know, after installing my Hooker system, I can't believe that too many other systems out there would be much less restrictive. The pipes and muffler are 2.5, mandrel bent, all the way back from the catalytic converter. You can look right through the turbo flow muffler, straight shot. So, what is gonna be the flow improvement here? Or impediment, that is.What do you think?

How custom is this system? I mean, could you bend the pipes and sell a kit with the right Ultraflow muffler? It's hard to find a quality shop to mandrel bend pipes and do this installation.

I use Mandrel bent U-bends and fabricate everything that way. From intercooler piping, exhaust, headers, and stainless radiator "hoses". It is time consuming, but I can build what ever I need. Mandrel benders are VERY exspensive. I had a lead on a manual one from an aircraft surplus facility, but the dang thing was 40-50ft long and do not have the room for it. There is one shop with-in 40 miles that has a mandrel bender. (that does commercial bending) I guess I could build a system and have him digitize the tubing and start selling a kit. The problem is that most people want CHEAP! Most guys aren't willing to spend $1,000 (just guessing) on an exhaust system even if it does have three stainless mufflers and made from mandrel bent 304 tubing. There is $400 in mufflers alone. Not much of a market for a system like this. Maybe some Chinese fabrication outfit could copy (steal) the design and make it for $10. You can take a picture to your local muffler shop and ask if they can build it for you out of Stainless U-bends or J-bends. Here's the muffler I am going to buy for my T-Type along with two of these if I need them later if the single muffler is too loud.: HTTP 602 Unsupported Browser HTTP 602 Unsupported Browser So far thay are the cheapest I have found in stainless. They are 409 (can be ordered in 304) but around here, 409 is going to outlast me. Here is a similar system to wha I am going to build. Maybe these guys can build one for the G-bodies? I'll have to contact them and see. http://pypesexhaust.com/images/sgf70.gif

Great idea...wrong town!

Give the local guys a lil credit...we know our cars, and we can tell buick power a mile away. Anywhere U go in the Chicago area, U will find somebody who has been whipped by Turbo Buick power. PM me when U get the car done and well do a top secret test against my car so u can get an idea where ur at. Then let the moneymaking begin;) .
