I am not sure where this question belongs but here it goes. I found 3 new 30lb cylinders of R12 freon in my parents garage. I know they are worth some money but I have no idea where to look or who to ask. Does anyone have any ideas what these are worth?

$20- will you deliver to NH?

Actually if you try to sell on CList they may pull the add.

I think you need to be a HAVC dealer or auto repair shop with a cirtificate to use or buy it.

I would wait till AC season hits & peddle them to the local Garages for CASH Wink Wink

Thanks guys. I know this stuff is rare and I need to be careful who I deal with. I have a friend in the HVAC world but have not heard back from him yet.

8 yrs ago, when everyone was freaking out about r12,I sold a 30lb tank on ebay,,for $700,then shipped it thru UPS no problems.times have changed...I have a link where some guys were using a new refrigerant ,cant remember the name but they used it as a drop in refrigerant ,and their getting like 20deg out the vents in their car..hehe.my opinion of r12 is that u missed the boat..i do hvac and wouldnt buy it for over $100

Try this R-12 REFRIGERANT PRODUCTS AND PRICES FOR R-12 AND R11,R12, R22, R502, R134a, R113, R123, R409A, R408A, R500, R404A Buyer must be EPA certified. If you have a friend in the hvac field have him sell it.

The seller must be certified as well so make sure you don't try to sell it without your friends help or you could get popped. As far as cost I can still get it but it costs about $35 a 12 OZ can. If you hook up a refridgerant ID machine you can make sure it's good or not. When the ban went full on some guys would fill a tiak with water and try to rip off the local shops. Caused a lot of independants issues.

Tanks would need seals on them still to get any good money for them. I don't know how often an auto shop would sell it, you may need to find a commercial hvac company the deals with low temp test chambers. Most r-12 equipment has been replaced due to the cost of r-12 and age of equipment. Some of the specialty equipment is big money and companies try to keep them going as long as possible. Hard part for you will be finding them.

I bought one over the summer time for $300.00.The only reason I bought that is the customer wanted r12 in his car and did his friend. One was a 70 GSX and the other was gs stage one convert.I tried talking him into freeze 12 which my buddy told me about. The parts dept in our shop has 9 30lb containers:eek: I see them go for 300.00 to 700.00 on craigslist post on there but be careful. I have the licence for buying and selling. The one I bought the guy asked to see it. good luck

I put an evap core in a 70 TransAm 455HD last year and that guy insisted on R-12, man he paid dearly for it!!! I changed orfice tube and accumulator in the GN in 05 and have'nt looked back!!!! Done a ton of retrofits w/ no issue!!

I am an A/C contractor.

Be very careful. You can't own it without EPA certification so quit advertising you have it the fine is way to big to get nailed on.

Have your friend store it and sell it for you. Do not transport it in your vehicle without EPA certification. If some local EPA looney tunes sees this you could be toast.

Price is worth what you can get for it. Many direct replacements now so it is not all that rare or necessary. Used to be worth a fortune but have your firend call his supply house for a real world value.

To me it is worth $200/250/30# cylinder. Plus you would have to prove it is actually R-12 (which can be verified). One time I bought a cylinder form some guy and it was not virgin R-12 but used with non-condensables in the can also (some cylinders can be refilled some can't). I got a bad can of R-22 from my supply house once and it was sealed to boot.
