Race Gas question...

im goin to the track tommorow with my monte and a friend in his 87 GN. we would both like to put a 5 gal or less of 110 oct fuel in our cars. can anyone please tell us if this is a good or bad idea, and what the good or bad effects will be if we do this. the 110 is out of a pump(so we figure it will be around 105-108 oct), right down the street from both of us. here are the combos of the cars...

Monte Carlo SS
350, stock (1984) iron truck heads/cam, all internal stock block, no cats, no computer controls at all, ill be on a 255/50R16 drag radial

GN
chip, IC pipes, cold air, no cat just O2, no boost controller or scanmaster tools to adjust anything everything else stock, he will be on a 255/60%15 street tire with front runners

and anyone have a guess as to what his GN might do, it has never been tracked, but pulls from my car pretty good, when im on street tires.

Dont know that it will help the Monte any, but the Gn will be a different animal with race gas. Advantages, more timing and more boost equal much better et's. Disadvantages are the cost of the fuel and a new o2 sensor.

It might not help the Monte unless he's running high compression. It will allow you to run more boost without knock, which means more power. Try to get your tank empty before adding the high octane so it will stay closer to it's octane rating. You might want to pick up a spare 02 sensor if you plan on doing this often, I've read that the Denso brand sensors are very durable when running race fuel.

Maybe a good idea to get Turbo link or something before you turn the boost up. Have fun at the track!

we both will be driving to the track on 93, then if we decide to, we will add the 110 to it at the track. will he need a new O2 immediatly, will it run ****ty aftger he races and drives home? he is not boosting a whole lot(i think). it has never been touched. but i forgot to mention it does have bigger (38#) injectors. we have never gotten into full boost through the gears, cause we dont have a boost gauge (that works atleast). but the car will leave 30ft patches of rubber from a 30-40 mph roll (i dont know if that says anyhting or not). we have only gotten into 2nd before he lets off, cause he is afraid of overboosting.

It'll take a few tanks of race gas before the O2 will be bad. But even then sometimes you can run a tank of unleaded thru and it will get hot enough to burn the lead out of the O2 and it will work again. I used to do that all the time. Usually could "clean" the O2 out a fews times before it just wouldn't work anymore.

Man, I wouldnt do any of this until he gets some good gauges, a scantool, and a hot wired fuel pump.

nope im going tommorow. ill bet there are gonna be 200 more people at the track tommorow than friday. its RSD again, and i have some minor leagues races set up. ill be there around 3, and leave around 12 or 1 am.i will make time runs for me (clocks off though) then the street races come later.

BTW i skipped on the 110 idea i filled her up with BP/Amaco 93 tonight, which should be pleanty for me car to hope fully make some more 14 second passes.
