Well the rad cooling fan finally died after being iffy for about 2 weeks. Can these be rebuilt? I can't find one in any local autoparts store. Are these dealer only, and if so what is the GM part # and how much $$$? Thanks

$$$$$$$$

Dealer price is over $300! One of the vendors had it for $180 but I dont remember who. I got one from jy for $25 off s front drive car, it was almost same size and cools ok. Sumit has that bad*** black majic fan for $160.

I've seen some on fwd buicks that looked exactly the same. same connector, resistor too. For $14.50 at harry's U-Pull It I'll take a chance. Forget the dealer. Autozone site brings up Siemens, but no p/n, and says "not yet available". So maybe soon there will be an alternative to used or sky-high priced.

Has anyone seen any for sale on the site?

The Be Cool spal dual fans are nice for about $250 if you dont care about original stuff , move alot of air too . Check summit.

OK here's an update. I disassembled the motor. It looks like the brushes are just worn down ( the car has 250,000+ miles). So I'll check McMaster-Carr for replacements when I go back to work. If it can be repaired.

I may just get a used assembly anyway.

FYI the p/n on my motor is 22051355. AC Delco give a number15-8221 when searching on their site. Another site crossed this 15-8221 number and listed it as AC Delco p/n 22062546. The price for this motor is $196.05.

Hey BM,

Good luck rebuilding it, I tried doing mine (the glue had dried out and the magnets fell out), it ran, but slowly and with huge current draw. I ended up buying one of those over-priced new motors (have a reciept for it too), but never installed it - could be yours for $125.00 and I'll throw in the complete fan and resistor!

I have heard in the past that someone pulled a used fan off some old desiel trucks that was able to drop right into the buick. I just remember that the desiel fans had a much higher CFM rating than the OEM. Sorry I don't have any details, but maybe someone else knows the story.

Motor problem solved. One trip to the U-Pull It and I got 3 motors. 2 from Fiero's, 1 from a Century. The fan and housing from the Fiero's are almost exacty the same as GN's, just minor cosmetic differences. The connector is different however. 2 motors run fine, 1 has 2 loose magnets which I just epoxied back on. All this plus a 237 regulator for ~$30. It took 15 mins. to install the motor and it works great. I love junkyards! Now to rebuild the original.
