Went to two parts stores to pick up an upper radiator hose. Both places don't have them nor can they order them. So, How do I get one?

i had the same problem. seems anything you need right away for these cars you have to order on the internet. any buick vendor on the internet will have one.:D

I had the same problem, but found out you can get both upper & lower hoses through Pep Boy's auto parts. I got the upper for 15.00. Fit perfectly!!!
I can't find where I wrote down those part #'s, but I'm sure you could call them up & they could help you. For some reason I think I had to tell them it was for an 1986 Grand National. They couldn't find it under any other year.

Pep boys, the one place I did not go to. Thanks

Yep, Pep Boys, but you may have to order them from there also. I order 2 sets from them, and they never came in, so I ordered 3 sets the next time around. When I went to pick them up, they magically found the original 2 sets I had order, so I bought all 5 sets...I should be set for life now, hopefully they won't rot to dirt by the time I need them :)

The lower is available at most parts stores. The upper is available at Buick dealerships. (at least here in Houston)

Do you have the pep boys part number?

Radiator hoses

The correct lower hose with the spring can be purchased (as of 2 weeks ago) from JohnsPerformance.com for $25.00 plus shipping. He only had 4 or 5 left so they may be gone. Kirban has the molded upper hoses for $22.00.

The number on the tag is (E)71755cs for the upper and (E)71756cs for the lower. They are about $15 apiece, and the lower does not have the spring if that matters to you.

IMO, risky to run without the spring in lower hose. Pump suction could collapse it & shut off water flow.

I once had an OEM GM hose that erroneously shipped without the inner spring -- advise always checking it!

Went to pep boys yesterday and asked for an 86 GN hose. They showed nothing for 86 or 87. Will bring my old hose and see if they have those part numbers you listed. Thanks.

go to ANY gm dealership parts counter and order the hoses..they fit!..upper is around 25$...the lower is about the same25$...be careful with the aftermarket lower rad hosees...they dont fit well!!..sorry i cant remember the GMpart#'s:) joe

The part#s for the Pep Boys hose fit fine, even on the TTA if you trim about 1" off of one end on the lower. I never worried about the spring too much, I figured if the water pump was sucking that hard, it was producing just as much pressure on the other end which would pressurize thru the block and radiator to keep enough pressure on the intake side from collapsing, plus once up to operating temps, its pressurized anyway, I could see it collapsing when the motor is cold and the thermo stat is not open, but only for a second or two until the pump can't pump any more pressure into the block.
If the spring is a concern, you could always twist it out of the hose on the car, and twist it back into the new hose thats missing it.
