Is the radiator oreily sells a direct replacement for our radiator or did the guy behind the counter not know what he was talking about.

Radiators

The radiator from O'reilly and Autozone are for Buicks,but not for our turbo cars. They only have 2 fittings on the front passenger side, and none on the backside of the tank. We require 2 for the oil lines & 2 for the transmission lines.They list that radiator for a turbo car but it's not. I know because I bought one, had to take it back. The best thing to do is buy from a performance company like CAS or Arizona GN. Cost is $220 to $240 plus shipping. No one in Houston has them, or you can have one custom made here, but will cost a lot more than mail order.

i got a replacement a couple of years ago from bill heard chevrolet. i was refered to them buy a member of this board and was told to ask for "stofer" in the parts dept. the radiator was the correct unit, it had fittings in the correct locations for the oil lines and tranny lines. i cant remember the price but it was MUCH better than the others i looked at. i'm thinking it was in the $150 range. i'd buy the same one again if i needed another. the # that have for them is 1-800-868-1585. good luck, aaron

Best bet is to call around to radiator shops in your area and have your original recored. I paid $160 for my recore.

and at your local rad shop can put your tanks on for 60.00

i need one for the WE4, and my buddy needs one for his t-type-

Does the one from Autozone have the oil hookups or the tranny hookups? I'm thinking of just getting it and using a Permacool unit for the tranny.

Autozone radiator

The radiator connections from Autozone are for the tranny lines. There are no provisions for the oil lines. They will fit Buicks with auto trans, not our turbo cars.

Will it work if I get one from Autozone and get a separate Permacool unit for the oil?

Really I'd just assume buy a complete new unit from CAS but his only has provisions for one fluid cooler also.

GM still has the radiator but they quoted me $450.

Hey Rick, don't get the local part store ones, as they are also only a two row and about 6 inches too short. You will have cooling problems right away and don't even think of a front mount.

I just went through all of this last month. Go ahead and go to gnttype.org and look up the gm dealers on there that will give a discount. I order from Dal and it was just under $300 shipped.

Rick,

I bought mine from CAS, 3 row high flow, with TR tanks installed by them, for $220 plus $20 shipping.

It was a drop in replacement, all lines hooked up where they were supposed to.

Actually, I ordered the unit for a 307-powered Cutlass from Autozone and it was a 3-row and the correct length. It was $85.

I hadn't been using my oil cooler for years and use a TCI transmission cooler so the configuration didn't bother me. It does a decent job of cooling; better than my crusty original. The temps really only climb up over 200° when I'm in stop & go traffic with the A/C on in 90+ degree weather.

I got the same thing only for a Monte SS, didn't use the oil cooler anyway. It worked great for what I needed at the time, before the front mount, now I switched to a 4 core.
