I am still looking for a rag joint or steering coupler, I think it is called, for my '87 GN. I got no replies on my last thread about this. I need one in good condition. Are these specific to the GNs, or will one out of a standard Regal work? I appreciate any help you can give.

Pretty much any autoparts store should have those on their "Help" rack, generally sold under either the Dorman or Motormite brand. If you're going to go through the effort to replace it, then it might as well be with a new one (and they're cheap too). Good Luck!:D

I think a better way to go is to go to a junkyard and get a whole shaft in good condition. They're pretty easy to remove. Most times the rag joint is good as new. A shaft from any G-body is the same. GP, Bonneville, Cutlass, MC, Regals and their 4 door brothers.

Red Regal T,

Thanks very much for your response. I am retiring in a couple of weeks, so I'll have time to make some wrecking yards. I appreciate your help very much. Sorry it took a while to answer.

I just changed the one on my car. My rag joint was OK, but I had one in nicer condition.

They are also the same as a 3rd gen F-body. Just the lower shaft though. You can pull them apart and just swap the lower shafts. If your car is like mine the upper vibration joint boot is probally ripped to so its best to find a complete intermediate shaft from a G-body.
